It's been around 2 weeks now that my 3G download speeds been down, when I try and download the best I get is an average of 3.5 kb/s, full 3G signal, strength -70dBm, Arcadia Pretoria.

Am I the only one experiencing this at the moment??

If you thinking of moving to vodascum think twice bro, their 3G BIS has been that bad for a while now!

I am also very tired of MTN BIS. My husband uses Vodacom BIS and we have the exact same phones. When we compare download speeds, the difference is unbelievable. I am porting as soon as my contract ends.

You guys are not alone. I have the exact same problem on my 9300.I am on Vodacom and doubt it's an MTN only issue. 2 weeks ago the download speed miraculously increased for a weekend only. Now again, I only get 2kbps which is useless for any 3g device. Complained endlessly and nobody from the network seems to know what is wrong. It is the same problem experienced in September 2011 which was eventually solved but why must the gremlin keep returning. I love my BB but not the fact that I must pay R59 a month for useless service

I noticed for the first day when I activated the BIS service on my 9300 I got 156kbs... And I rejoiced but over-night the network seemed to die and the next morning I woke up to a bunch of failed downloads. Opera Mini's downloads are like normal 3G speed but seem to fail just before completing. I'm on Vodacom...

Vodacom BIS sucks for downloads and MTN is heading in that direction as well. Never switch to vodacom if you're expecting faster download speeds. I guess 8ta is currently quick because of the limited users on their BIS network.

Thank you for contacting the MTN BlackBerry Support Team, streaming and downloading has been throttled as this fall outside the parameters of the intended usage for Black Internet Services. This includes streaming and downloading on adult sites, HTTP streaming, HTTP downloads, HTTP Audio, Peer 2 Peer and You Tube. Our latest usage statistics indicates that there users using BIS outside the parameters of the ‘intended’ usage. This results in a compromised data experience for the rest of the internet users. Due to a small percentage of users who are using BIS for purposes for which it is not intended MTN has decided to start implementing its T&C’s* - http://www.mtn.co.za/Support/Legal/TermsAndConditions/Pages/BlackBerryUsagePolicy.aspx

Should you have any problems don’t hesitate to contact us on 1555.

So you're tellling me that even if I'm using my own data and airtime I'm gonna have the same problems? Because truth is, I tried that and I still had the same problems with MTN.

All we can do is continue making ourselves heard on places like twitter by using their @MTNza handle (until we either are able to port or we move away from Blackberry). I think they don't give a damn and are just making even more money off our subscriptions now, they will just carry on and do what they want, changing the terms and conditions at will until all of us start to quieten down and accept it. That is what they are hoping for. My Google Maps does not use BIS anymore, neither does whatsapp. BOTH downloaded from the official app store..
