MTN BlackBerry service throttling for abusers

I thought the speeds were being throttled already cause my cousin was/is getting terrible BIS speeds from MTN

can they throttle existing contract holders? this wasnt said when i entered into the contract.....

Wonder what that limit is before they start throttling?

MTN explained that the throttled services will include streaming, downloading of files and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) on the BlackBerry network.
How do abusers manage to bypass the most secure phone in the world?
I though BB was all locked down, so that if you tether / download / youtube /VoIP you get billed for it.
Can someone explain how to work around BB/BIS so we can download without being billed.

This has already been implemented. It is virtually impossible to download an mp3 or stream, with the speeds at present.

its not about by passing anything, all you had to do was getting the os 6 and then find a http site that had movies/series on it and click the download button and it would begin the download, anyone could do it, all you needed to know is the best place to download from

kiss my hairy butt. i dont abuse the service in any way but have been suffering terrible speeds for over a month now. cant even open mybb in browser. so its been going on a while.

so BIS is now just BS

/and the idea of downloading large files via a BB... wow, patience - you must have lots of it

Thats because some idiot was downloading GIGs of data. Now that he is getting screwed, hows your BB experience?

well what they don't say is that they have introduced new limits on browsing. during the day my bb is a paperweight. if no 3g u screwed like me. very early and late maybe some browsing. the degradation of service is clear.

Sounds a bit too basic / limiting for practical use.

I would have though that a tethering app would be the way:

A few years ago I tried tethering but BB/BIS was clever enuf to detect and I still got billed
I have up, got rid of BB and got a less restrictive device - Android.

Geez.....I basically just browse the mybroadband mobile site and get emails, and use bbm, hell I don't even download music.....and yet my internet feels like it has been throttled to death. Mybroadband mobile even takes forever to open so if they only going to start throttling now (the heavy users) then I hope I see improved service from such a crap service provider.

I think its best I stay away from buying a blackberry device, since the only reason I would get one (BIS) is being throttled to death.

Who are these people who download GB's? Ever since I got a blackberry the service was crap! The only reason I got one is for the BBM, Facebook on the go. The service is great if your main communication is between other blackberry users. I only use my airtime for calls...

MTN blackberry service is unusable on edge - when im out of edge I dont even care to view a webpage or facebook

- My upgrade is next month...iphone 5 here I come!!! Too bad blackberry didn't bring out its new device in December

during the day my bb is a paperweight.

My BB has been a paperweight ever since Vodacom introduced their BIS throttling system a few months back which seems to be the same route MTN are now taking....punishing everyone for the sins of the few.

Sad to think though that even if by some miracle the Blackberry 10 devices launching next year actually end up being worthy competitors to Samsung, Apple and Nokia, the ****ty BIS performance which has become the norm in SA will kill the potential market for it. No point in having a shiny new BB 10 smartphone if it takes you 10 minutes to open the MyBroadband forums. The last time I checked BIS stood for "Blackberry INTERNET service" but as many will vouch, BIS is pretty useless for internet.

Just about everyone I know (including myself) are either in the process of or are planning to migrate to other brands of smartphones so if RIM have any intention of trying to maintain the market share they've enjoyed in SA, they better have a serious sit down with the providers and come up with a better method of punishing the abusers instead of rendering the BIS service basically useless for everyone else.
