Hi there,

Not 100% sure where to post this but seems here under MTN is best.

Anyway we have a user who requires his BlackBerry device to be installed. The problem is that MTN insists that all services have been activated and they are providing us with very little support.

This will be my first BlackBerry installation. My colleague is now on leave and I am taking over for the time being, she also could not get it to work.

I just want to clarify if everything on our side is set right, as far as Im aware the GPRS writing at the top right should be in caps and not lowercase.

Also when I disconnect wireless and reconnect it says data communication refused. Voice appears to be working though.

Does anyone have any advice that could affect my side rather than MTN, lets just say maybe they are right and everything is online. I also just noticed there is no APN, should there be one for BlackBerry??

Thanks

U using the "Internet solution (BIS)" or the "Blackberry server(BES)" Solution

Blackberry server(BES) solution as Im aware.

The user will be linking to his mail on our Lotus Notes server hosted here in head office. Im sure once I get the GPRS sorted out I can do the rest as I have step-by-step instruction :)

I could help with BIS.

For BES you need to contact 1555.

Actually Im in a building up on the hill looking down at Hendrick Potgieter road. I can see your MTN building and many of the windows on one side :)

Anyways I haven't tried the number today as I was running around like crazy. The GM's secretary has e-mailed once again though and still no feedback. Just thought I would post this to keep you updated.

Will see if I can make some time tomorrow. Ciao.

Phoned the number, they said the service was not enabled. I was told that a ticket has been logged and I should try the device again in two hours or so.

Hey guys. The Data Connection is still refused. I made that call about an hour before the last post, its been way over 2 hours.

Not sure if I should still be patient however the secretary has also phoned MTN yet again.

Hi again. Sebastian phoned me about ten minutes ago, unfortunately I was not in the office.

He told me that we need the BES software installed for the line on MTN side. So all I need is a letterhead of our company with the request and approval to install this faxed to MTN. Sebastian will give me the fax number on Monday.

Then they will have the software installed. Im hoping then it will all be sorted out. Will keep you updated when something happens, or nothing :)

Much appreciated Pitbull, thanks for getting someone who seems to know what he is doing to phone me.

Another update. The first time I phoned 1555 today and explained the story I got more than halfway through then I started hearing the operator saying, "Hello?, Is anyone there?, Hello?". That was a bit of a disappointing laugh.

So I phoned 1555 again and was told Sebastian is off duty. Anyway just to get the ball rolling I explained the whole situation. I didn't catch the person's name by a long shot but it sounded like Lindiwe or something.

Then I was directed to another department and given a fax number. The number didn't work. 083 705 7663

In between I tried dialling 1555 a few times but after holding a long time I just hung-up the phone each time. Assumed it was lunch time anyway so no problem.

So I phoned 1555 again and was told that I would have to speak to the Service Provider. They redirected my call and after holding on a while I got through to another unpronouncable name I didn't catch. When I asked for a repeat of the name I was asked,"Who am I speaking to?". So I said my name and just went straight into the story about the fax number being incorrect as I wasn't really bothered about formalities any longer.

I was then told I would have to phone 1555. So I haven't got anywhere today.

I will have to wait for Sebastian to return on Wednesday I reckon.

btw I have the signed letterhead with the request in front of me but nowhere to fax it to
