Hi

Could someone please give me a full walkthorugh on getting a prepaid data bundle.

Also how to get the settings, etc.

Thirdly, I have a w850i and would like to use it to connect my pc to the net with the data bundle.

So is this all possible?

Thanks in advance

All you need to do is call 141 an follow the prompts it will give you all the options. the phone you can connect via bluetooth (if have built in BT on your PC or a dongle) or a data cable. The software you got with the phone should have a internet option or you can setup a dailup from you pc.

Hi
That is correct. Prepaid data bundles are available via the 141 IVR. For a list of the current bundle info try this link:
http://www.mtn.co.za/?pid=248769

Remember that all data bundles are valid for 30days from date of activation. They do not carry over. If not utilised by 30days it auto depletes. Also remember that you cannot load another bundle within that 30day period, if you have one loaded already. What occurs is that you will be charged the respective outbundle rate that applies to that bundle.

E.g. If you purchase a 100MB today @ R80. You have 30days to use it. If you use it in 20days, the effective outbundle rate that will apply for the remaining 10 days is R1.50 per MB. After that you can load another one.

Hope this helps. if you PM me a number I can see if all is provisioned ok on the sim.

it auto depletes

Is that the latest MTN doublespeak for 'we take your money and don't give you anything in return'?

Give us data roll over before I 'auto deplete' MTN altogether !

I bought a few SIM cards for 40c each at Pick n Pay then bought some airtime from them as well.

Used the SIM in a phone to call and load the airtime, then coverted the airtime to a 1G data bundle for R399, which actually gets you 2G.
I then used the SIM in my data card, but also tried it in the Samsung D900 as an EDGE modem with the USB cable and it also worked great.
With the D900 you can just dial in a service number (forget this #) and you'll then get the setup files sent to your phone, then after that use the phones software to setup the internet connection.
I got a few SIM cards just in case I used up the data bundle before month end, I could then just load more on the next SIM.
I think they are working on allowing you to add another data bundle in the month period.

How does the extra 1Gb work on prepaid bundles (on the special that's on till 15 May)? The website says:

# If you subscribe to the 1GB Data Bundle within this period, you will receive and extra 1GB of data free for three consecutive months from date of purchase. If you take out the Extended Data 1GB contract within this period, you will receive 1GB extra every month for the entire duration of the 24 month contract.

The way I interpret that, if I buy a 1Gb data bundle, it will expire in 30 days, but I'll get another one free; when that expires, I'll get another one free, and again after that. So I'd get 4Gb, lasting 90 days from my purchase.

The other way to interpret it is that my first Gb lasts 30 days, but the next (free) Gb will last for 90 days.

So which interpretation is correct, or am I being too optimistic all round? :)

(And if I do get 4Gb - how do I go about getting a bundle? Is it just a case of loading R399 onto my sim and then converting it to a bundle?)

Hi C

Basically it works like this. You need to have sufficient airtime in the prepaid account to purchase the 1GB. When you dial the IVR select the option to subscribe to the 1GB bundle.

Upon activation you will be given 2GB. Once 30days is up, as long as there is airtime for another 1GB purchase, an additional 2GB will be loaded automatically, hence the use of the word subscribe. It will load every 30days automatically as long as there is sufficient airtime.. Same applies to the next month. Remeber the 2GB will only last 30days.

Hope this helps. Any further questions let me know or PM.

I cant see MTN going back to charging R399 for only 1G after this special, considering Vodacom sell 2G for R389

500 MB 1 GB 2 GB

Vodacom HSDPA 189-00 289-00 389-00
