MTN E620 PCMCIA issues

Dear fellow users, I have a question, specifically for the lawyers amongst us, which pertains to the purchase of the PCMCIA E620 HSDPA card from MTN. I purchase the card in December 2006 and have used it during the time my holiday at the coast. :) Yes I know I need to get a life :(... however the laptop broke and obtained a new one... to my surprise the new laptops has PCIX and not the standard PCMCIA slot. Thi means I cannot use my card at all and cannot bring my of the contract. No PCMCIA to USB adaptors are available from MTN and they insist I busy a USB adaptor and will not exchange. Even if I need to paya service fee to get an exchange from PCMCIA to USB makes financial sense to MTN but alas the store I obtained it from is staffed with rude and technological challenged individuals.

The option to buy locally sourced adaptors are expensive and does not make any sense.

As part of contract law, if I cannot bring my side to the contract due to certain conditions this contract can become null-and-void and all I have to do is indicate the issues via formal communications. This will allow me to get a new contract.... Any comments form our legal contract experts trolling the forums...

Or even better, MTN are you listening.... I did submit a formal query via MTN.co.za but alas we are frogs  being boiled to death...

MTN does not have to supply any accesories needed for you to use your datacard. And even if you don't use it your contract will still remain valid and you will still be held responsable for payment of such a contract.

As for purchasing the new laptop... you should have checked that it has what you need before buying it. If you did buy it in the last 7 days you could have returned it to the store and requested a replacement to a laptop that does have a pcmcia port, note this is dependant on that stores return policy.

let me put an example through here- if you bought a laptop that only accepts motorola as a phone for connectivity, your laptop breaks and you get a replacement, only now this laptop only accepts Nokia. Now ure stuck with a Motorola handset and a Nokia laptop, bearing in mind that no fault lay on our side in this instance. they wont give you a new Nokia to replace the Motorola even if there was such a thing as a pay in.

I use the analogy of the phone because its in the same light as a handset.

If MTN had any sense, they would make adaptors available cheaply or free to those who require one.

Given adaptors are expensive, but the manufacturers of these things milk us too:(
The same thing has happened with me now- i purchased an e620 data card on a R49.00 mycall package, i bought a fujitsu amilo pro v220, that at least had a pcmci slot. i sold that laptop and purchased a more advanced siemens one with more processing capability, but it has the new slot so im also stuck unless i wanna fork out a grand for an adaptor- i say hell no and i use my 3g phone for connectivity, trust me when i say i feel your pain:mad:

So I buy I car and it gets a flat tyre. I go to SupaQuick and and buy a 14" instead of a 15" and it doesn't fit the car; so now the car dealer has to give me money back for the car because it doesn't work anymore?

Hmm, yes, I can see why that should happen.
