Im checking on this one, no matter how i wrap my head around this it doesnt make sense. What i have surmised though is that one comes with a device and the other doesnt - but the cheaper one, not the more expensive one, comes with the device- ive mailed the web content administrator about this.

They are the same, I pay a "handset surcharge" of R60.00 on the R189.00 500Mb Extended MTN-Data package, therefore the same cost as the "more expensive one". Rip-Off with NO difference!!! Misleading the public

I emailed the MTNSP Webmaster and this is the reply I got. See if you can make any sense of it!

Good day,
Thank you for using Webmaster.
Please note that extended 500MB package
Extended Data 500MB allows you to top up your data if the free data depleted and therefore you will get charged out of bundle rate, kindly check the below rates:

Data Rate out of bundle R 0.38 R 0.38
In bundle rate R 0.50 R 0.50

Please note that 500MB for R189 is a standard data package which differs from extended data in terms of the rates, kindly check the below:

Data sessions deplete inclusive data in 1KB steps. Standard and out of bundle data sessions are charged at our published rates in 1KB steps with a R0.02, VAT exclusive minimum charge for access and rounded up to the next cent at the end of each data session, excluding the minimum charge.

We trust that you find the above in order.

Kind regards,

Seems the "Webmaster" is only master of copying and pasting from his own website :wtf:

Note also the max speed quoted as 21.1 MB/sec aka 21.1 Megabytes/second. I

Anyways, it seems to me someone just swopped the prices for the two. One includes a modem, the other doesn't. But if go this route, PLEASE make sure you use the topup option to prevent bill shock!

Data bundles only can be seen here
The nice thing about MTN's data bundles is that out-of-bundle = in bundle and expiry is 60 days after date of purchase. So let's say you want 75 MB of data per month or less. Then you can buy a 75 MB bundle in month 1 and in the 2nd month just use 75 MB data, or less, which will cost the same per MB at out-of-bundle rates. But if you use less than 75 MB in month 2, you don't waste money on unused data.

Only thing is then you must remember to repurchase a bundle every 60 days.

One includes a modem, the other doesn't.

Both of the packages include modems. I received a free modem on the Extended data 500MB and paying R249 pm. The R189 includes modems as indicated on the website.

All i know is, with my iphone4 i used the Top-up subscription, so If i wanted the 500MB i load R189 airtime and use *141*06# option, i usually top up 2 GB at a time for R389, but i do get 150MB a month free on my iphone, so i really dont understand the "extende data" is when u run out of your "free data" cause i run out of my free 150 in a day and i dont have to pay for extended, but it might be the difference between top-up and contract. i am unsure
