Should Vodacom and MTN get into ADSL, we'll see lower prices for sure, unless they collude.

That means, 4 companies to choose from for ADSL; Vodacom, MTN, Neotel and Telkom.

At the rate that MTN is increasing there bandwidth capacity, everyone will be switching over to them. If their prices are better and the bandwidth is more reliable, why not? From what I have read, about MTN's new fiber backhual that they are going to create nation wide, it should be reliable as they are going to have a strict SLA with the supplier on uptime and maintenance times. This is excellent, because a SLA(Service license agreement) forces the supplier/provider to be sharp. Now if only ICASA and Telkom can finalize their SLA.

You can actually get from even more people than them. I believe that openWeb or webAfrica (not sure), also supply ADSL. I don't know if there are other ISP's that do it too.

Well I spoke with some ISP (as I said, I am unsure which one) and they said if I have a current Telkom ADSL line, I won't have to pay Telkom for ADSL line rental. But with what you are saying, I think that they must then have some deal with Telkom or something....

My bad

DSL-Complete allows clients to order a Telkom ADSL line and user account in a bundled package. Clients will benefit from the simplicity of being able to pay for both their bandwidth and ADSL line rental through a single point of contact. See our DSL-Complete FAQ

This is from WebAfrica's website. Once again... OOOOOOOOOPS :p

Lowry said that the company will consider alternative technologies in future, but stated that their current HSDPA and EDGE services will remain their major residential connectivity technologies for now.
I don't have an issue with the above statement provided that the coverage and signal quality is spread across all residential areas. Some places really suffer with wireless signals either due to insufficient base station coverage or geographic terrain impedes signal quality severly.

MTN - any indication about addressing areas such as these? My house is a prime test location if you want to test some solutions :D

iBurst not interested in my area until next financial year at the earliest - so their loss as I'm sure a viable alternative should be available before then. Same will apply for MTN if Neotel / Vodacom jump onto newer technologies which solves this problem first.
