The biggest issue I have with fixed LTE is loadshedding... when power goes, it seems that signal in the area slows to ridiculous speeds... i mean whatsapp text messages lagging slow.

This is probably thanks to the 3rd world bandits stealing backup batteries from the towers. Its been like this for 2 years now so I think MTN gave up trying to install and secure batteries on site. And this is the middle of Sandton/Morningside/Bryanston - not some arb place in the middle of nowhere.

Fibre stays connected as nornal. So with an inverter powering the house, gas stove and Vumatel Fibre, I dont feel any loadsheddding blues. If I had to rely on MTN for internet though, I'd have to find something to talk to the wife about for 4 hours at a go!

I wonder what the stats are for tower congestion during loadsheddings as almost everyone goes onto cellular because their fibre and ADSL is off, besides the towers that go offline.

Whats the catch?? MTN usually throttles down to like 256K so on this deal they give u 1TB max usage at 10Mb for whole month..

Honestly for me the price seems pretty in line with what most people will pay for 1Tb. The speeds I have recorded on the MTN LTE network range from 60mbps-150mbps that is way way faster than Openserve fibre lines at 20mbps for uncapped @ R799.
This product will probably suite the average household that cannot get fibre but want large high speed connectivity.

Just a shame that most people have this mental block the moment they don't hear the words uncapped.. never factoring in that their real usage is sometimes as low as 50GB a month but they deem a slow 10mbps uncapped connection better than a 60mbps large cap connection?

How do I buy this?
I have a Huawei LTE router and an MTN SIM.
Tried the MTN USSD *141*0# and the MTN Mobile App.
Apparently you have to visit one of their branches for the month to month deals.

Month to month does not sound to bad. Wonder if afrihost and etc will change their pure lte packages to these prices.Does any one know what the top up prices are on the month to month?

That's what I'm wondering too. 1TB is pointless if they throttle after a point, but seeing as it's a limited time deal and fixed lte maybe there's only a select few spots available, so who knows perhaps this actually is just a short term decent deal for the lucky few
