MTN launches R249 smartphone

No mention of network lock?

I wonder if it has Wi-Fi

Very good question.

I do know it uses a Spreadtrum SC7731 Quad Core chipset with just 256MB of RAM.

EDIT: From article

Features

Along with access to popular apps, the Smart S supports 3G, GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi connectivity.

... so yes, it does. :)

MTN Locked though??? In that case they can keep it.

It also includes a web browser, front and rear cameras, FM radio, up to five days of battery life, dual-SIM, and microSD support (32GB).

Fineprint = MTN locked for primary SIM.

What does that mean?

My dual SIM can make /receive calls from either and can use data for either.

What's the point in locking it then?

hopefully the network lock is crackable

does it have hotspot?

In the years gone past (a decade and more ago) when feature phones where still network locked, you could go to a Paki and for R50 they would unlock it. I wonder if they can do so with this phone.

I swear they can download all your data by just holding the phone in their hand. What is it with these guys and wanting to handle your phone when all you want is a cover??
