In the years gone past (a decade and more ago) when feature phones where still network locked, you could go to a Paki and for R50 they would unlock it. I wonder if they can do so with this phone.![]()
Knowing Whatsapp attitude to the customers, after a year the app will stop working on this phone with a message "This version of Whatsap has expired, upgrade Whatsapp".
MTN Locked though??? In that case they can keep it.
Do not waste your time trying to find it on the MTN website/online shop !!MTN launches R249 smartphone
MTN has launched its Smart S phone in South Africa for R249.
The device was originally unveiled in November 2018 as the product of a partnership between MTN, Unisoc, KaiOS, and China Mobile.
I swear they can download all your data by just holding the phone in their hand. What is it with these guys and wanting to handle your phone when all you want is a cover??
This is not an iPhone.Knowing Whatsapp attitude to the customers, after a year the app will stop working on this phone with a message "This version of Whatsap has expired, upgrade Whatsapp".
When they say "launch" it probably went to space.Do not waste your time trying to find it on the MTN website/online shop !!
Glad I'm not the only one... it's like every time.always wondered about this. Super dodgy!

IIRC the networks did it voluntarily to avoid legislation being passed.I thought it was illegal to network lock stuff sold by SA providers? I see it is locked... there goes that theory.
It's only one of the two sims that's locked.I was interested in getting one until I saw the Network Lock.
To quote Prince 'Yeah.... No'

Aaah... Makes sense ta.IIRC the networks did it voluntarily to avoid legislation being passed.
I would rather compare it with older Tizer phones (where Whatsap had already stopped working in December), to give a warnig to the potential buyers.Next up, an article comparing this phone with an iphone?
