Knowing Whatsapp attitude to the customers, after a year the app will stop working on this phone with a message "This version of Whatsap has expired, upgrade Whatsapp".

In the years gone past (a decade and more ago) when feature phones where still network locked, you could go to a Paki and for R50 they would unlock it. I wonder if they can do so with this phone.

Seems possible , heres another kaios phone being unlocked

I don't think that will be the case here.

This OS is the only way Facebook and Google can get their hands on the low end market, so I am reasonably confident that they will maintain it.

MTN Locked though??? In that case they can keep it.

Primary sim slot is network locked while the second slot is free to use on any network, seems reasonable enough to me.Going to buy one of these,I wonder which stores have stock already.:D

I can't believe I'm excited about a R250 phone lol my current phone literally costs 112 times more than this.:D

IIRC the networks did it voluntarily to avoid legislation being passed.

Correct and in this case they're probably betting that if one sim is kept unlocked then the status quo should hold.Personally I don't have a problem with that as you can still use another network on the phone MTN is just saying that if they are subsidizing the phone or bringing it in close to cost then they also want a piece of the pie.
