I now have had it with Vodacom. 3g Service (GPRS for that matter too) is to my experiance never going to get sorted out i nCenturion area. I have now filed my 3G Contract SIM in file 13 (should be on a garbage heap by Friday) and inserted my prepaid MTN sim and wola :D The is life after Vodacom's crappy service in Centurion.

My caller miles on 155 fails to improve things, and i know there are other bleeding users in Centurion too. Luckly my 3g contract is almost full term, so i'm gonna take the plunge and buy myself out (i should in fact get discount for the 2 months left)

Look for me on the MTN (maybe even the Telkom) side of this site

Which tower do you connect to ...... I would venture a guess and say it is Wierda-1 South.

The site has apparently run out of capacity and they are behind schedule on commissioning an additional tower in Panorama road.

GPRS is in general as useless as tits on a tick, while HSDPA is more stable but a dial-up dog at 29kbps.

Yip, i connect to that tower and another one Bra****ein i think. I have already ordered my Telkom ADSL line this morning, in mean time i will use my MTN prepaid SIM to get by. BTW, as i am typing here, i have been on hold for over 20mins on 111, trying to get to the contracts department.

"Aparently " they are fixing up capacity issues cinse March this year. I am done waiting. I have work and need reliable fast internet service.

One of the network engineers was originally very indignant when I asked them if they could make more timeslots available for data on the tower.

His answer was that they would lose voice capacity as GPRS uses the same network portion ......... and they would lose voice revenue ..... which is more important to VC.

They should not be oblivious to fixing their problems, there is as of now already 1 less 3G account, and very soon my Voice contract will also disappear from die VC network.

I am very keen on trying out ICASA's new ruling of number portability :).

The issue is really simple: Fix the network covarage in Centurion, or lose out on more than R1k per month from me (and others that surely will follow)

I live in Hennopspark Centurion where I have the opposite situation. Zero MTN 3G/HSDPA reception (and I mean zero) - but great Vodacom 3G/HSDPA reception. I'm locked into a 24 month MTN contract (with a Huawei datacard) that I can only use for GPRS connections (thus e-mail). And I did check the coverage map before I signed - which indicated full MTN 3G/HSDPA coverage in my area. I'm hoping the Vodacom pre-paid data bundles become a reality soon.

So both network operators are guilty of the same sins in the same area.

My office sits next door to Sentech tower in Hennopspark ....... soon I might just be desperate enough to try and connect to it.

The subject of this thread is almost a bit misleading in that you are saying the MTN Service is better, but there is a thumbs-down next to it???
So are you having problems with MTN or is it thumbs-down because it is better than Vodacom, which means it is a thumbs-down for Vodacom?

Hannes3G, weren't you the one in another thread that had a problem which V3G said he'd sort out? Did nothing happen? You have certainly changed your mind for the last post I remember reading from you....

Die Thumbs down is for the Vodacom service, hence this thead is in the Vodacom Section of the site. The The thumbs down is also for Vodacom because the MTN performs better.

Vodacom3g have put some action in motion, but basically there is not much improvement going to happen in the area ... for a while at least ...

I am waiting for the arrival for an external antenna that might help, but that is about as much as that could possible be done for the area.
