I'm currently regretting porting to MTN.

Decided to port to MTN end of April 2007.
Received phone 8 weeks later, Sim not registering on MTN network.
Begining August - do sim swop, sim registering now. Unable to receive any call from non-MTN users (like vodacom, telkom) Effectivly locked to MTN network only. Also unable to receive SMS (especially from ABSA)

At first the poor girl at the MTN shop was helping me (she's the one that did the sim swop to get it working), but even they now gave up and don't know what to do anymore or where to complain.
Called the 1555 call center, got a ref. number. Useless bunch they are. On thursday it took me 5 call just to get to someone to see what's happening to the call. On friday they forwarded the call to the MNP department. Today the ref seems to be lost, so i was forwarded to the customer call centre, and the guy said he'll get the technicians to look into my problem and that he'll "call back".

I'm at this stage very disgrunteled, without a usable cell phone contract, at a useless service provider.

Should i cancel the contract and go back to Vodacom and sue MTN's ass, or see if MTN can eventually sort out their sh*t.

Where else can one complain? or what other actions can i look into?

Oh dear.... I was thinking of porting from Voda to empty-hen in Jan, cos their phone offers are much better than Voda's. Also heard that resolving issues is a huge problem with them.

My port to MTN was virtually smooth-sailing. Some issues with Vodacom not granting me to port away but on the 3rd try they said it was ok to go to MTN ;)
So, ye, pretty ok for me. I made sure beforehand though what to expect and what to do from my side to make it as smooth as possible.

I haven't regretted that I have moved to MTN from Vodacom though, because their technical service is much better imo. I receive signal for 3G / HSDPA in areas where Vodacom either doesn't have service or their service is a lot more degraded.

MTN is lacking in their client support and billing areas a bit though.
I took a dual sim for instance on my contract to use in my E220 modem. I told this specifically to the sales woman when I took the dual sim that this is what I will use it for.
Months later the sim in my modem dies and I find out that MTN decided to cancel the SIM in my modem because they picked up it wasn't being used for voice.... so ye. Go figure.

I struggelled a bit with all my invoices on my account too, with a dual sim and also a second contract, but it seems to be sorted out now after a few months of persevering.

But as you can gather, I prefer a proper technical service and I was willing to put up with the rest of the issues while it was sorted out.

True, their handset prices is WAY better than what Vodacom is offering. One of the reason i decided to move over. Still think i'm an odd one out on the porting, (a friend of mine's went thru ok).
MTN do have issues with their 1st invoices, because of limits they set. So if you pay-in for a handset and get your first monthly bill it's normally over the limit, so they susspend ur account till you pay. Few unnessesary calls i say.

I still think their helpdesk are utterly useless. Started sending mails, and went back to the poor guy at the MTN shop. Will wait and see wat happens.
Using my phone now as an rather expesive modem.

Great Experience

Just Ported from Nashua to MTN SP - Signed the forms last night at 18:30 and was phoned this afternoon to tell me my new phone is ready and the port completed. My new sim activated at around 10pm as they said and I am very well pleased with my new SE P1i (gps module included):D
