Is this deal any good? If I look on the "Offer Includes" tab, it seems to include a free VR Headset. It seems too good to be true? Maybe they are playing the "*while stocks last" card?

The only thing I am weary of is the actual package. I can get the same phone on Telkom Mobile for R649 with 100 minutes and 1GB data. I'm currently on Afrihost Mobile XS (R39 airtime and 1GB data), but my Galaxy Note 3 is almost 3 years old and it's time to upgrade. I like the battery life and the top of the line camera. I have Wifi at home and work, so I'm mostly interested in having data for when I'm out and about.

I am speculating that MTN is responding to the iPhone 7 release and that we're getting to the end of the year. I wonder if I should wait till next year when the Galaxy S8 comes out? Is this phone going to get much cheaper? Will I find a better deal?

To repeat, it's the huge battery with the amazing camera that I'm interested in. The large screen has been great on the Note 3, but I think the slightly smaller profile might be nicer for jogging/gym with the right accessory.

I've also seen that offer, but I already had a pending upgrade at Vodacom so I got my S7 edge from them. It definitely would be a good deal if true.

I had the Note4, but the S7 edge just feels so much better in my hand. It feels lighter and smaller although there isn't much difference in size. You definitely wouldn't be sorry for getting a S7 edge.

nah.

its not worth it.

rather go to TM.
not because the deal is bad, but because the provider is bad.
you will be billed 2 months after you use anything. so any out of bundle data you get billed for will be for 2 months AFTER you use it. so you cant even check your logs to see what you did.

you cannot buy data bundles whit airtime.

if you use the AFrihost APN on the phone they might simply deactivate the sim because its inactive.

plus you will be giving them money to help them pay their legitimate fine in Nigeria. just think about that. they wont build new infrastructure, they wont cut call or data costs, they will pay Nigerians.

just stay away from MTN. no matter how good it looks, being on an mtn contract is worse than anything else.

also EVERYONE is going to say get the P9 from TM regardless of you saying you want the S7. just be warned.

S7 edge > P9. Proof: http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Huawei-P9,Samsung-Galaxy-S7-edge/phones/10012,9818

It's got a better battery. The camera might look like a winner in the roundup, but check out these tests: http://www.tomsguide.com/us/huawei-p9-vs-galaxy-s7,review-3556.html

Definitely want that phone.

I'm also kind of feeling that I'd like to port away from MTN. I'm an ex ADSL subscriber though. I freaking hate dealing with Telkom when it comes to their customer service, but their network seems to be covered in the major areas. I'm seriously considering it. Thanks

Sorry for hijacking the thread but I also sit in a similar situation with MTN.

Have been a loyal customer for 17 years but lately their service is bad. Very bad.

I have an issue with a contract now for almost a year which I cannot resolve. As soon as I ask difficult questions they ignore me. Have reported the same problem 3 times, get a reference number their PR people email me and when I refer back to the problem guess what no further communication.

After threats last December they paid back an amount but when I asked how they calculated the amount no further replies.

What is the next step? Ombudsman?

Having spoken to some friends, I am considering waiting till December. They reckon there might be some Xmas specials? What are my chances?

cancel contract.
go to a store manager, speak to them. they wont be able to do much but they will still try,

then get him to organise a meeting with someone higher up.

your best here is to have the contract cancled with no cost to you and them taking back the device.

going to the Ombudsman will take ages, but it could help you out.
just dont go putting up a sign like the guy who had an issue with Cell C did...

nah.

during DEcember they sell all sorts of fake deals. 2 or 3 monhts with massive amounts of data the rest of the time with like 100mb. and its such fine print. all networks do this.

best time of year to get a new contract is June/July.
its after all the flagships came out.
its before the google event so you wont feel sad for not being able to get the new google device is SA.

contracts are simpler because there is no december sales targets.

Thanks. That sounds like reasonable advice. However, I'm still considering Telkom... We're talking about the SmartPlan 100 which comes with 100 minutes and 1gig of data. I don't know what their history is like with specials.

isnt the new free me deals better?

I have not looked at contract specifications in a while because I am stuck on MTN for another 10 months. (yes I am counting down)
first contract is moving to prepaid on sunday...

all I know is TM is going to give you a better deal on the same phone, cheaper data, better call rates, and on top of that the signal will be the same if not better than it is on mtn (TM roams on MTN)

Hold on, that is good! I only phone my wife and my parent's landline. Other calls are truly random one-offs or irregular (phoning for takeaways). That might be an option too!
