I loaded R15 on a prepaid SIM. R10 for a 10Meg data bundle and the rest in reserve. I used about 10.1 Meg, so I knew I had a meg or two spare for a quick visit.

I tried to connect the next day but could not. Tried several times, rebooted, restarted phone etc, no luck. Rang 173 and then pressed 5 for data support. A non-data support guy answered (why?) and said GPRS was up and that I had NO airtime or data bundle left!!!!

Then he said he could see R3.58 on my account, but could not say whether it was available or not ... why I hear you ask ... well because 8 hours on MTN's system had not updated and so they couln't tell whether I had used the R3.58 or not:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Now it's about 12 hours since I last connected the money is still AWOL.

MTN, is it really worth arguing with a customer and calling a supervisor about R3.58?????

For heaven's sake, just give me the credit next time so I can check my mail and not waste time getting a new voucher.
I know I had time left because my counter is accurate and I made sure I had enough for a quick visit today.

Some of your employees are really brainless.

That's just stupid, not worth all the admin for a whole R3.58.

Edit: Seems I was misunderstood, I mean stupid on the part of MTN for arguing about it, if their systems are any way at fault they should credit the customer immediately, even if they're not 100% sure whether or not he spent the R3.58.

Trust me, they don’t like that word 'credit'. I had a argument with them few years back because about +-R6(cannot remember) also went missing after I supposedly called +27731234ABC (the system did not show the last ABC or something). That +27731234 beginning of the number that was known, was Exactly my number. So I got charged because I called myself at 6AM while I was asleep with a phone that was not turned on. :(

Good luck with this one Skeptik!

@Syndyre R3.58 is R3.58! If I budget for a R15 x 2 voucher, to be able to use 10MB each month for 3 months..I budget for R30 and not R30+R3.58 or whatever that MTN could take from me. Do you? :p

I agree, read my edit where I clarified my point. :)

If MTN owes you money you will never see it my friend. Trust me.

Retentions gave me a R340 discount on my N95 when I upgraded my contract. I had to pay the full amount, R999, when I upgraded because I got it from a different store. Then I was told that MTNSP will credit me with the amount. Well, it's about 7 months later and I still haven't seen any credit to my account.

Maybe I must send them a invoice for the amount and if I dont get anything from them I blacklist them.:D

Heck, there is always a point to be made about me wasting time and effort over a small amount of cash as well...

But its the principle. They could do it every time ...

As it turns out (after speaking to a nameless operator, Khotso (supervisor) , Sindiswe Nkosi (thanks for hanging up), Zama (surname refused) and most recently, Dinesh (supervisor) the amount in question is R5.

Every time I tried to connect and got an error (PPP connect error) MTN very ungraciously deducted a few bob. They were able to tell me the exact time that this deduction occured so it was easy to see that there is a problem on the system because I never managed to actually "CONNECT" to their system and get what I was paying for.

I know that, for example, UK Virgin would NEVER quibble about this and would immediately credit if there is any doubt about their own system. Why does it make sense in that country and not here? This is what makes me scratch my head.

Possibly.

They appear to have changed something. I used to be able to connect no matter whether there was credit or not. Just I didn't get data. Now it just doesn't connect at all.

Also it disconnects itself quite a few times.

In fact I was just speaking to a manager at MTN to sort it out - Gift Nyoka - and the call just terminated. It appears he is too busy to even bother calling me back.
Mind you, he kept trying to say that there was nothing wrong with the system - yeah - as if he can tell. I mean really, suddenly they're all engineers as well

Ooops, they hung up on me again. Bit light fingered this night shift? I wish I were in charge there:D:

Sindiswe Mbhele put me on hold and is now trying to find Gift Nyoka. They're refusing to tell me his cell number :)rolleyes:).
....... Oh dear, someone picked up, did some heavy breathing and I could hear they actually hung up deliberately .... naughty, naughty!!

Now I'm speaking to Sithabile - a rather immature person who never answers a straight question.

Q: How come Gift Nypka left at 11:45, that's an odd time to leave.
{i'm still upset he didn't bother calling me back}

A: I'm leaving in a minute too, he's on another team.

Q: Ok, I'll ask for his team, what is the number/reference for his team?

A: It's just another team.

Aaaaargh. I feel like I'm in the twilight zone here ....

Apparently Gift Nyoka didn't call me because he left and is now driving home. Oh great ...

Probably just because they can get away with it here.

The saga continued today. Gift Nyoka (aka Mampara) failed to call back so I went in search of him today :D

Spoke to Gail and then Slindiwe. They had their own ideas about where the money went.

Bright spark theory No.12 (Courtesy of Supervisor Slindiwe: "Because you failed to connect via GPRS, as a fallback, your modem connected by CSD and thats expensive so that's why the R5 disappeared so quickly"

Now this woman, despite her extreme arrogance and usual customer service attitude, has a degree, though she would not be drawn on exactly what subject she specialised.
Of course, near that exact moment her finger slipped and she disappeared ...

[I wonder what all this is costing MTN?]

While we are on MTN and billing anomalies. On this months account I have call to the UK for 0 seconds and MTN saw fit to charge me R1.40. I did make the call, but it did not go through. <sigh>

Ever thought that it is odd for them not charging you for your Sms's sent to the UK during that month ?

Coincidence maybe ?

I was in SA at the time. I did not send any SMS's so what should I have noticed?

SMS sent to the UK ?

You know you sent SMS's to the UK right ?

The system will reflect SMS's sent abroad as an International call with a time duration of 00:00:00. This is done as SMS's sent abroad does not get billed under the normal SMS's structure and the rates are different.

Ah ok, would have been less confusing if they had headed it as International SMS. ;)
