Exactly my feeling...

The Government can't decide something simple like whether an international cable can plug into SA. There are never, ever, going to be able to decide whether Telkom can be sold to someone else; and heaven forbid made efficient.

There are just so many people who are going to say no, can't possibly be allowed, its not good for:-
- Jobs (employment not Steve)
- The Economy
- The Country
- Competition
- The People
- The Children - 'think of the children'TM
- Spurious reasons #10-#543

Its just so much safer to say no. If it goes ahead and goes wrong you can say 'I told you so'. If it doesn't go ahead you can say 'I told you so'. If it goes ahead and is a great success you will find some downside and say 'I told you so'.

We really need someone brave who will step up, make decisions, and stick with them.

And don't get me started on the time and money wasted on taking every little decision to court...

That's because they can't find investors willing to give away half their profits to a company with a name like BlueCuckoo357 who will add no value and who's major shareholders are former ANC ministers

I can't see Telkom not making a huge profit even after. Firstly they will have a huge financial injection for selling the vodacom stake and secondly they are robbing us of our money on a monthly basis.

Telkom’s backbone is a valuable commodity, but MTN would probably like to dump a lot of staff and maybe spin off the retail business. With employment being at such a premium it will be a very hot issue.

They didn't seem to mind when Telkom retrenched thousands of their own workers despite making billions in profit.

That cash injection is more than likely going to share holders as dividends, a nice big fat dividend.

I've heard that VC accounts to 60% of Telkom's profits. A look at their financials could verify.

I doubt the authorities would allow Telkom to purchase a stake in MTN. Telkom has been abusing their market position for as long as I can remember. They could not even buy BCX, which is a very small company by Telkom standards (Telkom is about 100 times the size of BCX).
