Looks like MTN is getting their groove back - their latest ads are quite funny.

Just in case you had your doubts...
Taken on a recent Ugandan trip - these were all taken in one street - there were MANY more. Africa is poor, but they sure can float a company![/QUOTE]

Nice building, adds colour to the whole street:)

These are not just ads - these guys sell MTN as one of their main income sources - that may sound good, but it reminds me of the lottery and how it's often the poor who spend their bread money with high hopes. Cellphones have become so NB to everyday life that you can't do business without them - whether you can afford it or not.

remember - we complain about waiting 6 weeks to get ADSL - Do you think the townships have access to phones? MTN go in, put up a tower and hey presto - phones.

Sure

It makes sense, why install copper. etc etc.
The point is that if I complain of high communications costs, how do poor folk afford it... and has it become one of those other things you are expected to dish out money on just to earn a living. I just have issues with taking money from the poor.

Breaking news is that the MTN boss is lost in a Kenyan air crash.

The head of cellphone giant MTN in Cameroon, Campbell Utton, 51, was among those aboard the Boeing 737 that went missing over Cameroon, Rapport reported on Sunday.

If I get problems with my SonyEriccson, or need a new screen, I just take it straight to SE service centre in Midrand?

Where are you, my son? In Cape Town?
