Hi,

After reading through the forums it looks like I am not the only one struggling to make sense as to how this package works, I have a couple of questions I hope some of you could help me understand

- Is "MTN Unlimited Lite 3GB" (what I am on) the same is their "MTN uncapped Lite 3GB'?

I have had this running since November last year with consistent Speednet speeds of around 7mbps, downloading on average 22GB a month and never hit any throttling cap until last week I could not get more than 0.2mbps

Weird thing is I have dual sim on this contract, so insert the other sim in my router and now I am getting around 5mbps, slower than before but way better than my other sim.

Tried speaking to MTN who tell me I have exceeded my cap so that is why I am being throttled.....no *****

Anyone experienced the same or worked out what I cannot work out....

- Surely both sims are linked to the same contract (MTN confirmed this) so why different speeds on each sim?
- I would have hit my cap after day 3 with my usage since Oct, how do they determine when to throttle me then, simple says after using 3GB but that does appear to be reality @ MTN

All I want to do is understand how to 'manage' my usage with this contract yet logic does not seem to apply here.

They have offered to migrate me to the 10GB unlimited package but that makes no sense whilst I still get great download speeds over the so called 'caps'

Long post, sorry just confused so if anyone can shed some light it would be appreciated

Sorry for not being clear I was referring to the capping policy itself on a single sim that may be dependent on the actual congestion of the network in your area, but as for the difference between sim cards its probably a billing error so they are registering your one sim as separate "cap wise" from the other..... best to keep quiet about it and not abuse it so they wont notice it and cap it.

Ah yes..that does make sense, also thought the same thing on the cap on each sim having its own limit....shhhhhhht :)

Must admit this deal has been awesome with an average of 23gb per month at 6/7mbps downloads all for R299....what more could you want.

Sounds good for now but its not guaranteed lol and besides mtn speeds suck in my area i get only 0.5mbps.Even Cell c sucks here but if you're getting those speeds in your area it is a great deal and you can cancel at any time if the service becomes bad they only allowed to charge you 10% of the remaining months and for any modems you may have taken(hope you did not).

Enjoy ;)

Where do you get this 10%?? They are allowed to charge a 'reasonable cancellation fee' which in my experience is the remaining months on the contract...

Hi
I'm just wondering if this contract is still available? I went into an MTN shop in Cavendish, Cape Town and they said they don't have it anymore.
Just wondering how much downloading you guys do on this contract in a month?

Thanks

I've got and get up 15gb per month on downloads and that's just basically at night from 7 to 12pm.

You can get the contract on MTNsp online cos a buddy of mine just got his about 3 weeks ago and he also said the stores dont offer it anymore... Plus they dont charge connection fees and deliver it to to your doorstep!

Thanks. That sounds good and competitive with cell c and 8ta despite speed concerns.

I have checked on MTNSP and it is also cancelled there. So yes this deal is over and it would seems that there are now no mobile uncapped deals offered by any service provider for this small charge.....:-(
The speed was not bad concidering the fee. I have it and my contract will end now within a few month, dont know where to go now.
Any ideas????

I know I'm a bit late, but I have the same issue as you. I do have an explanation for you on the dual sim issue though.

I also have the same setup. The reason for the faster speed on the dual is is because it has a different ip address and also a different MSISDN (cell number). I know this because I used to work for them.

After you have used 3GB they throttle the speed down to 30KB/s download speed max. On the dual sim however they did not have a tracking service, which means that you would've been able to get normal download speeds there.

I was abusing this and I think that they have figured out that most people are abusing this as my secondary sim is now permanently throttled. I have noticed that if I cancel my secondary sim and activate a new one with a new ip, it takes them a while to catch me again, but not too long.

If your secondary is still open, try not to download to much as it will catch their attention and get you throttled. You can maybe look into Tor to keep them from seeing what you are doing.
