Plans to shut down 2G and 3G in South Africa

Switching off South Africa's 2G and 3G networks will be a challenging feat for the country's mobile network operators and the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa).

Operators will have to work with Icasa to streamline the discontinuation of the networks, a process that MTN and Vodacom have said will take a few years.

How many 2G and 3G alarm systems and camera systems or other systems still get used ?

TONS.

And with soo many people still poor, many still use non-smartphones, especially in outlaying areas.

And 5G seems to be problematic. Did anyone notice that the US of A had to stop it all in its tracks after discovering how much it affected the aeroplanes landing.
"More recently, the US aviation regulator, the FAA, warned that 5G interference could lead to problems with a number of different systems aboard Boeing's 787 Dreamliner. These could make it difficult to slow the plane down on landing, causing it to veer off the runway." I dont know but veering offcourse can lead to a crash? Boom?

I am starting to wonder if 5G has been properly researched, or was a way made just to get faster networks.

The other downside, they can not install a 5G tower on your property, without the need to ask you. You could be forced to house 5G towers. Oh and you cant charge them rent if they put a tower in your property.

And it may affect bees. We love our bees.

So yes there may be arguments to and fro, but many a consumer is blind to things that gets rubber stamped to be ok.

Upto 2013 we were lied to saying how safe Teflon was, but it actually contained PFOA. (IARC has classified PFOA as “possibly carcinogenic to humans” (Group 2B), based on limited evidence in humans that it can cause testicular and kidney cancer) It was a big cover up. You may want to watch the movie "Dark Waters"

And let me not even get started about J and J Baby Powder causing ovarium cancer, but heck our shopping market shelves are packed full of them for mothers to keep using.

So call me stupid or pathetic, but was it properly researched as to the effects and the damages that it can cause?

Because I can tell you many churches has been rolling out cellphone towers, placed within 3-4 metres of pre-primary schools' classrooms. And yet cellphone towers were not tested for kids with developing brains who it can affect long term. They were tested on US military marine's brains. Just saying.

My router is only 4g/5g capable. No 2g/3g and no USSD.

Perfectly fine till the 4g signal drops for days on end.

What does car trackers use? btw
The new designs are using LTE modules. GSM are not being installed anymore BUT most tracking companies still have millions of GSM tracking units. Position via GPS and data via GSM or now LTE. Gsm 2G should be gone by end 2025, 3G by next year sometime. And hopefully all these cheap 2G phones will be replaced with cheap LTE phones

I hope Vodacom can fix their LTE network before this happens.
My phone's battery tanks when it is connected to LTE, even while on WiFi and doing nothing.
When I force it to use 3G, the battery drains a lot slower.
I strongly suspect it has to do with the configuration of their towers.

Both my phone and tablet are 3G only so if this happens I'll simply move to another network. If Vodacom wanted to do this they should have ensured that no 3G devices were sold in the last 10 years.

One of my phone bettery was draining with vodacom 4G so I switched to 3G to cure that. So ya vodacom don't fix that aren't broken.
