Hi all

I am at my absolute wits end as to whom to ask for assistance!

Two months ago I took out a contract with MTN (Bluff) for a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) tablet.
Not a single soul has been given the number, yet somehow the telemarketers have it

EVERY DAY it gets at least 10 spam sms's offering me wonderful bargains (cough) ... and easily it is getting 5 or so calls daily from the scum of the earth telemarketers!

Who can one address to seek a final solution to this, as it is getting unreal!

MTN are of no help and couldn't care.

If I "OPT OUT" how much are the sms's? Why should I pay to not be spammed like its going out of fashion?

Some assistance would be greatly appreciated

Your bank
Sanlam
Edgars etc

They periodically sell your information to those guys, especially Sanlam

I've found that my "friends" give my number away to get some kind of reward for "referring me" as well

You clearly did not read op's post the number had not been given out, yet mtn sold his details with probably what he got for his salary /id documents etc etc

Another reason why they are scum

Call the place you bought it from and ask them politely if they did and then ask them to politely have your details removed (unsold) or you will make their lives a legal nightmare. :D

Telemarketers...easy...tell them they sound hot, ask them what colour panties they're wearing, ask them if they wanna come over.. if they're still on the line after this...ask them if they don't mind talking while you play with yourself...works for both sexes. Will never bother you again.

Contract is new, that would be a recycled number. Previous owner could have advertised that number extensively.

What makes you so sure MTN didn't give the number out?
They have a database of numbers, I can almost guarantee it was them.

Thanks for all the input. Really appreciate it. I tried the swear and threaten death option, but that never worked. I thinking Im taking a stab at the method provided by Mike6870

I had the same problem with them. I eventually chucked the number and went prepaid on another network.

You can block numbers using the full number, a few numbers at the beginning or end. Also according to words in the SMS. Both calls and SMS.

Although MTN is the likely suspect, you might have a recycled number.

How do you block numbers?

I used to be able to do this with a very old Nokia but my slightly newer primitive Nokia C2 does not have that function available!:crying:
