President Robert Mugabe has gone on leave for a month which could further delay Zimbabwe’s crucial power-sharing talks.

It was predicted that Mugabe would spend some of his leave out of the country in Malaysia where he and his family usually travelled each year and would only be expected back on duty in early February.

Although Mugabe always took a holiday in January the timing was seen as confusing this time as his Press Secretary said the Zimbabwean President was on the verge of forming a new government.

Spokesperson George Charamba said this was not really a holiday but more of a retreat adding that his boss would continue working on ways to form a unity government with Movement for Democratic Change as well on reflecting on ways to overcome sanctions.
