A sobering read on our neighbour up north and the help he has received from his friends, amongst them South Africa, while the people die.

In a 37 page memorandum in 2002, Mbeki wrote about the Zimbabwe crisis - accurately predicting the outcome of the illegal farm invasions and advising Zanu PF to abandon the exercise - not on principle or in defence of the rights of those being abused or the legal principles that were involved but on the grounds that the Party of the Revolution' would run the risk of being dispossessed. In pages of closely reasoned argument, he set out the case to defend the right of the 'Party of the Revolution' to retain power - at any cost.

Interesting read, thanks.

Just goes to show what a SOB Mbeki is. I hope he dies alone and miserable one day, all his dreams of being a great statesman forgotten, remembered only as a footnote in history for his massive failure as president of South Africa.

Even better, I hope he is implicated in the arms deal for corruption, and hauled up before the ICC for being complicit with Zimbabwe in human rights abuses.

Seems Morgan was right all along and the scary thing is that Mbeki is still trying to broker a power sharing deal.

This article was written by an MDC MP, of course it's going to backup and agree with Morgan! Not that I'm saying the author is wrong, but it comes from a politician for goodness sake, not an unbiased journalist or researcher.

A far more balanced view of this memorandum can be found here:

and the memorandum itself:

You can't assume that the article is going to be biased. Yes, there is a good chance that it may be considering who the author is aligned to. Likewise, why should the MG article be more balanced - it passes comment on some of the statements raised by T-Bone. They are different in approach.

Perhaps you should urge people to read both, and the original T-Bone memo and come to their own conclusions.

Yeah, I agree, that's my opinion, regarding the bias of the original article, but politicians generally tow the party line, and it seemed to me, by peoples reactions to it, that they didn't realise it was written by an MDC politician with an agenda. Just cause he said it doesn't make it fact. The MG article is more balanced - in my opinion - because the author is a respected journalist with no party affiliations and nothing to gain.

Putting the links there is my way of urging people to read the article and memo in addition the the original article ;)
