MultiChoice and American media titan pump R2.8 billion into Showmax

MultiChoice has announced that, along with American media conglomerate Comcast, it has provided $164 million (R2.8 billion) in funding to Showmax since 1 April 2024.

The South African pay-TV operator entered into a deal with Comcast subsidiary NBCUniversal Media (NBCU) and Sky in April 2023 with the aim of turning Showmax into Africa's leading video-on-demand (VOD) service.

Multichoice/DSTV have proved they are not good at betting ...

I believe they are overly optomistic. But hey, I don’t care - not my money, not DSTV's money either, but the shareholders want to gamble, good luck to the sorry beggars.

MultiChoice highlighted several figures relating to its Showmax subscriber base post-relaunch, including the fact that 100% of subscribers had migrated to the new platform and subscriptions.
A fairly high fraction of users migrating to the new platform I'd expect but the way they claim 100% here makes me dubious.

Well it's there money let them waste it. Multi-choice doesn't seem to understand that it is seen as the worst of the worst, pumping money into it will not change the business model or the general ill will it receives from its own customer base.
