DStv launches Black Friday deals

MultiChoice-owned DStv has announced its Black Friday deals for 2024, which will see customers receive substantial discounts on DStv hardware and bonus data for new DStv Internet subscribers.

The pay-TV broadcaster’s Black Friday promotion will run until Saturday, 30 November, while stocks last.

Its hardware deals are as follows:
  • DStv Streama — Marked down from R799 to R499.
  • HD Decoder — Marked down from R799 to R699.
  • DStv Explora 3B — Marked down from R2,499 to R1,699.
DStv notes that the Explora 3B decoder can pause, record, and rewind live TV.
South Africans looking for a good deal on data can sign up for a new DStv Internet contract and get double data for the first three months.

And that's it. No new subscription discounts.

if you paid me R3000 a month to get DSTV and gave me all the hardware for free I would still turn it down.

everyone has a price and there is an amount you can pay me to get DSTV, but it would need to be more than triple the most expensive subscription, because the humiliation associated with having DSTV is so much larger than the benefit it offers.

So now the question - they kept Black Friday period offers so thin because

1. They think they've still got the market
2. They're in worse trouble than they thought
3. They still think their content prices and packages structure are good

?

The former enables users to rewind TV by up to 24 hours to catch up on programming they’ve missed, while the Cloud PVR Recordings feature lets users save live content.

Can someone point to these features?
