DStv to offer Disney+ in South Africa

MultiChoice has announced that Disney+ will be available on DStv Explora decoders when the streaming service launches in South Africa on 18 May 2022.

“DStv customers can enjoy the benefits of exclusive contract packages and bundle deals, bringing all their entertainment needs to one central place,” the pay-TV provider revealed.

I wonder if those decoders work as media streaming devices without a DSTV subscription. I mean they're not great as stand alone streamers but if you have one and it works without MC then you could use it to smarten up your TV.

Pop DSTV a mail and ask them

Its embarrassing that tiny little Chromecast dongle, outperforms them by a huge margin.

Also given the power draw difference, it might be cheaper to replace the decoder with a streaming device over a year or two.

MC decoders give out a lot of heat and don't seem to have a proper sleep function.

I'm sure there is a strategy team at Multichoice who know what they are doing but from the outside it boggles the mind that they still produce their own hardware.

Rather bundle a Chromecast/Apple TV or whatever with the annual sub to their app or something.

Maybe they are trying to reposition themselves as a hardware company.

I kind of understand the attention seeking thing but I don't know which one is worse on MyBB. Linux users, Apple users or Non-DSTV subscribers.
Which category would you say you fit in?

I didn't feel the need to tell everybody that I'm a DSTV subscriber, which exact model phone I use or which OS I have on my PC so none of the above.

They need all that extra processing to ensure nobody is sharing accounts.
