Maybe MonoChoice owns Eveready and that's the real reason why the number of rc buttons to press is being tripled...hmmm, nope I still think it's a neafrious plan to make unsuspecting people think there are 510 channels when there aren't.

Hi,

Well, after growing tired of MultiChoice and the anti-competitive actions that they like to impose on SA I have created a petition site - http://petition.sa-mce.com. The petition is to raise awareness regarding a number of issues with MultiChoice - Specifically them not providing Electronic Program Guide (EPG) data in an open standards format and that they are legally pursuing individuals who are freely providing this data to various communities who need it.

Please read about the issue at http://petition.sa-mce.com and sign the petition at http://petition.sa-mce.com/signpetition.aspx.

Please tell as many people you can about this petition. For it to be effective, we are going to need a lot of signatures.

Thank you and have a nice day!

multichoice sucks

Methinks Multichoice as a company does not have a clear strategy about what they want to do.Why i have to put 3 digits to get a channel ? We complain about repeats, and repeats and yet another repeat and nothing is done.

The only reason why i have one is 'cos they have supersport ,otherwise i would be smoking my money away .................

This an deliberate marketing tactic by multichoice. License awarding is happening next week and multichoice just want to show off big their genre compilations are. They have some many cr@p general entertainment channels, we own all the sports, etc.. They don't care about us.

I'd personally rather have the channels arranged in the new way. It's pretty annoying having random channels all over the place at the moment. I mean Go is in the most random place of all...

Not to speak of the NOT AVAILABLE CHANNELS from 17-19. :D

5 years ago when DSTV went UP it was the currency depreciating. :(
Last year it was the same accuse although the R/$ appricated.

Am I the only DSTV fan around? I guess it was the 20 years of being subjected to SABC crap without mnet that I'm loving it! Its been about 4 months, I paid R5000 for the year. Honnestly I would pay R10000. I get to watch sport live. Not at ****ing 1am like SABC sport does. Why would I watch the F1 Grand Prix and 1am on a Monday morning? Its not normal.

Anyways I'm happier than ever! DSTV FTW <3

Don't really watch DSTV that much anymore, but I really can't see what the fuss is with the numbers changing? The UK did this some time back with SKY.

As mentioned by others, channels are running out. Its just easier to get people to use a 3 number system, and also learn the numbered genres (eg 200-250 for sport) (before 20-33). Give it 3 days and you should know the new system???

Yes DSTV doesn't have the best range of services (and its expensive), but its still far better than the alternative (20 year old movies filled with hours of ads on ETV, not to mention SABC!).
Hopefully this move means they're slightly scared of the upcoming competition and that the service will only get better with new channels and/or cheaper packages (one can dream ;))

changing the channels doesn't matter much, but that high price just goes up! How about making it cheaper?

To make something cheaper, implies that it is cheap to start with, so the following are more appropriate:
  1. How about making it cheap? OR
  2. How about making it less expensive? OR
  3. How about making it less exorbitantly priced?
IOW, @MonoChoice, reduce your frigging prices!!!

The ability to choose one's own selection would rock. Privately re-shuffling them would also be OK.

At the moment I watch news, occasional movie and maybe some Bloomberg. Not really worth the subscription... Probably cheaper to leech/stream the stuff over an overpriced adsl connection.

Wow, technical people so resistant to change! My grandma also struggles with change...

If you don't like DSTV, don't bother to subscribe. SABC is for your! Have you heard of supply and demand? People are willing to pay a premium for channels that would have been otherwise not available in South Africa.

Strange - monochoice seems to be struggling with the idea of change too. Look at their tired old business model.

I guess that is a luxury they have being a monopoly but thats not going to protect them for ever is it. ;)

I don't really care about the fact that the channel numbers are being changed - I can get used to new channel numbers.

What I do care about is the lame excuse that MonoChoice has cooked up as the supposed reason for changing the channel numbers, and I don't see any new channels being added or even advertised by MonoChoice.
Have you heard of supply and demand? People are willing to pay a premium for channels that would have been otherwise not available in South Africa.
Yes, I have heard of supply and demand - it is a market force, however all market forces and normal rules of economics do not apply to monopolies, and MonoChoice is still the only licensed pay-TV service in SA, which makes it a monopoly, and therefore your argument is completely invalidated.
