I think you have to accept that there are people who will be offended by bad language. Personally, I am not so much offended as irritated. Young people tend to repeat what they hear as well.

I knew someone religious who used to count the number of times you said "Christ" or "Jesus" or "sh*t" and inform you!

I don't think you can come to the conclusion that such people have anything to "hide" or that they are special in any way.

I like to hear the movies in their original state including all the language. If DSTV would have the censored soundtrack selection button on all their channels, we wouldn't have complaints.

Multichoice reprimanded over foul language movie

MultiChoice has been reprimanded for failing to warn viewers that a movie it broadcast contained foul language, the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of SA (BCCSA) said on Thursday.

What you do have to wonder is why Mr Wolvaardt is so concerned for his young children, yet has purposefully (yes, this isn't a default) changed the language from Family to Original. What a tosser, read the flippin' manual!

Changing to FAMILY does not always work, as MC can't get even that right :)

While it is pedantic, the complaint carries a little merit, even if I have to side with Sackboy on this.

What pisses me off no end is when they cock up the language tracks though on the movies and broadcast the censored version on both family and original soundtracks. It makes watching anything not family rated rather annoying...

lol, cracking myself up.

i prefer all the SNVL the title has to offer without the silent gaps in between. it is actually more annoying those pauses than hearing a quick ****, ****, ****, **** and so on. No one is going to say oooh that is wonderful, or yay i like this when your knee cap for example is being blown off. even the most religious person would say something when he/she seriously bump their heads even it its Deksels or Dammit, its an expulsion of geez this was not nice.

Swearing can be overdone to the point where it isn't really swearing as it might occur in the set scenes, but just plainly saying it for the sake of swearing *just because*.

Obviously you don't want your younglings sitting through something that is not appropriate for them, but you should also not be silly and watching something that is most likely going to have swearing/violence in it and then go o gee i blame my provider.

they should anyways be taught was is wrong/right from very start...

the report is missing all the important bits:

- what was the advertised age restriction, and was there a warning for foul language?
- was the normal alternate "cleaned-up" green channel available that excludes the foul words?

If there was a proper age restriction with language warning, and if the "green" channel was available, then Mr Wolvaardt and the BCCSA can go jump in a lake.

Now we can only guess....

here's the judgement:
http://www.bccsa.co.za/images/hearings/JUDGMENTS 2009/PDF FILES FOR WEBSITE/MULTICHOICE/case no - 25-2009.pdf

Surely it's not Multichoice who decides a film's classification?

He watched the movie with his children and found himself in an "uncomfortable situation" as phrases such as "co**sucker", "cu**" and "fuc*", were frequently repeated, while the movie also showed drug abuse by a minor.

So how long did he actually watch this movie before changing the channels? It must have been quite a while if those phrases were "frequently repeated". Instead of waiting to for MC to get the age restriction right, rather change the channel to cartoon network bud.

So pick up that remote, its the right thing to do.

Did you actually read the article?

MultiChoice admitted the word "fuc*" was used repeatedly and that the film was broadcast during the watershed period.

What is this watershed period there talking about?

Multichoice certainly messed up but didn't the guy think maybe he should change the channel for the sake of his kids?

That's what I said, but DJ seems to think we're missing the point of the article. Personally I would also change channels before waing for MC to get their PG right.

What's that saying that Einstein coined: "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

Just change the frikken channel! ;)

Again - Multichoice was at fault but how many times did the offending phrases need be to repeated before his parental control kicked in?

Hi Guys,

I am Mr Bruce Wolvaardt... and the BCCSA also made a small stuffup on their part.

Listen to this:

This is the whole story.

We had friends over for a braai one afternoon. So the kids kind of got on our nerves and requested we put something on the tellie to watch. I liked the Mnet Stars channel as at that time they broadcasted really good content. Like Home alone, old school kids movies that kids should be able to watch (specially as the ad said "mett the applegates" was PG).

I stood with the braai tang in my hand I my ear caught a nasty word... I dismissed it only to hear another. Went in the house and as sure as heck there were 2 minors having a humping on a trampoline... ON A PG FLIC.

Now.... you dare to call me a "prick" because I made **** as my daughter asked me "daddy... what is a c0cksucker".... Seriously WTF.

There really are some f@cking idiots on this forum for insulting me in the way they did... What the hell does my Surname have to do with anything "MAESTRO"... your surname is probably WAY more outlandish that mine... you are probably jealous that your name was not in the news....

What is the use of BCCSA if dumb people knock people who actually use it to defend the ears and eyes of the innocent.

MC needs to know that they need to play ball according to the broadcasting rules of SA... Kids also use their products and all of you who slammed me for trying to protect my kid... I hope your kid gives you years of problems because you did not protect him from the filth of the world.
