DStv busts pirate kingpin

MultiChoice has announced the arrest of a suspect involved in illegally selling pirated Internet streaming devices, which enabled users to access DStv content.

This is the company's second piracy-related arrest since 31 May 2024, made in collaboration with Irdeto and South African law enforcement.

Their mistake was that they took money for piracy. Hopefully they kept in a kitty so that they can afford proper legal representation.

It wasn't a mistake, it was their business model. They knew well what they were reselling. It is the same as with the Dreambox days. They better hope that the authorities don't get access to their bank account and customer book, which they will. Just to put it out there, once the authorities shake them, they will be quick to give up resellers, customers, etc., to show cooperation.

The customers won't be in trouble, some might be questioned, but that should be it.

Another one.

I bet the first one snitched on him. These hoes ain't loyal when they get caught.

I enjoy IPTV too. Haven't had an antenna or dish at my home in yonks.

DSTV stream and Showmax is pretty decent, although pricey. F1TV is a big win. We had Netflix for a while too, but that's been nerfed. And I see Telkom have now offered three months of free Prime Video. I'll take up that offer for the kids' holiday.

So is IPTV more 'legal' to use?

Depends on whether the IPTV service is legal to broadcast its content.

The biggest issue with IPTV is licensing, regional rights and all that. Yes, there are IPTV services broadcasting content they don't have the rights to broadcast.

So just because the IPTV service has access to 1000 channels and dstv is included in there it might not be legal to access?
