MultiChoice is hiring someone to go after online pirates

Ag anyway, I hardly ever download anything. Stream all the time, yes. And most of it is free shows from e.g. twit.tv.

Worst I do regularly is bypass region restrictions to watch Sky News for example. Do I feel bad about that. NO.

They can take a jump.

Not so sure about that. They mention nzbs, torrents etc.

Yes, they said they will be monitoring those sites to find people who are REDISTRIBUTING.

Look at each major bullet point.... "Reducing, Mitigating and Controlling redistribution of content"

Well we don't store any such data. They would have to intercept the stream or request the information from Hulu directly, for example, and Hulu would have to comply...

Actually, Hulu doesn't have to comply as they don't operate in South Africa. MC would have to follow the American judicial process to get the information and they would have to provide some kind of legally obtained proof.

No offence but your business is going to file for bankruptcy if this happens. Why would anybody need big caps for reading emails and browsing. Wont cellphone networks replace you guys? I am just curious

If they don't comply, they can loose their business and be thrown in jail.

You are not allowed to stream according to them. I wonder if youtube is included on their list? There are a few bbc shows on youtube.

Oh well i guess the people ISPs employ will understand if less people use the internet and big caps.

Ok Just to ***** the poor sucker around, i think i will set up a dedicated torrent VM and Seed all the Linux Distros, Khan Academy etc etc, Who wants to suggest content.

Here is my Contribution to the list https://learningequality.org/ka-lite/

Now where is that Interweb Article on how to CREATE a torrent. Even better, lets download the FailArmy episodes from YOUTube and create Torrents from them.

This could be fun.

First, when did MC become proxy for content creators? Second, Netflix is coming... Keeping their eye off that ball... What could possibly go wrong? Eish!

Mmm.

I think so. Primary focus seems to be uploaders.
maybe it will still go hard for the downloaders, but this profile seems to be targeting the content uploaders.
I still think users who want to download should be careful though... anonymous services, proxies, VPNs, etc. should still be employed and discussion about any potentially unsanctioned activity should be avoided.

The best way to fight piracy is through pricing and distribution.

That. ShowMax isn't bad, improve it a bit more and piracy will go away. As will Hulu and Netflix.

I used the trial last week to watch GoT Series 5.

I was fairly impressed, just a few more series and I may keep the subscription.

Would you go to jail for someone else that you don't know? I wouldn't

The law is the law and an ISP has to abide, I get that.

I just question if the internet will still be in demand and how will upgrades be funded.

What are you on about? Nothing is going to change.

Mybb releases articles about pirates downloading terabytes of data. Will people still need high speed lines if they arent streaming or using big caps? Will isps still invest in capacity and will fibre even be needed?

You seem overly concerned with this, chances are the impact won't be felt at all. People use the Internet for things other than downloading TV shows and movies.
