MultiChoice to start selling 4K TVs in South Africa

MultiChoice has announced a partnership with Sky, which will see the South African broadcaster sell its "Sky Glass" TV range from 2023.

In the UK, the Sky Glass TV comes with a QLED panel and packs built-in Wi-Fi connectivity for streaming Sky TV and streaming apps.

I'll put good money on MC pricing this product out of the market for what its real capabilities actually are.

Its a 60hz panel, so anything more than R15k for the 65 inch model is pushing their luck, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it in the R25k - R30k range

But you dont broadcast in it?

unless streaming is on horizon

Maybe they will charge you a monthly fee, billed per pixel.

Wait a minute, Is this a TV for home or commercial TV?

I would expect a monthly fee for each pixel, plus an insurance charge per pixel as well... and it will vary if you want all the colour spectrum, or you can opt for a reduce colour spectrum for a lower price.

Premium R1000 a month for all pixels.
Compact R500 a month for every 2nd pixel
etc..

Somehow, this will make Multichoice even richer.

Because the ou toppies will still drop big bucks on this junk since they don't know any better.

I remember my dad being very surprised when I installed Netflix on his brand new smart tv within a few minutes. I don't want to know how much money he dropped on that TV (It was so large it could barely fit in the lounge) but he was convinced that he needed to drop some more on a "dongle" from DSTV so he could get netflix.
