Does anyone know what sort of bandwidth is required for streaming. Also what the filesize for say a one hour program will be for both the Hi and Low options listed on the site (and the resulotion of both)?

A standard 4.7 GB dvd is stated as being able to store 120 minutes of video. But sure at lower resolution you can get up to 6 hours of video onto the same dvd. I'm guessing that video streaming will work on something similar to this - an hour long file ranging from 800MB to 2.4GB in size.

700Kbps for the higher res. 300Kbps for the lower res. I think they are really waiting for local bandwidth to become uncapped to really unleash this on the market.

They're probably in for a long wait then. :eek:

MultiChoice needs to begin looking at new ways to ensure that when competition arrives it will be ready.

Some worthwhile programs on Discovery et al that have not been repeated 4zillion times, and an effort to rectify the ad volume problem, may be a better place to start...

Hi AStrauss

Another more technical article will follow. You can expect Carte Blanche - 47 mins - to be around 240 MB in size and 100 MB in low res. They cut out all ads which is great. The resolution is not bad...very watchable even on lower res.

I doubt
that any overseas person would access History, Discovery etc as these would be available from their local broadcasters.

The only channels which I'd expect to be of interest would be those created locally such as local sport, news and egoli ...

You missed my point. I meant that the place multi choice needs to begin in order to thwart competition, is with decent quality programming.

This reply just in from DSTV:

If you mouse over the "hi" or "low" buttons, you will see the resolution. Hi = 251MB and Low = 115MB
filesize 30 min show:
300k = 55MB
700k = 128MB

If multichoice actually had a free choice(or a pick and pay) option then this would be wonderful.
