How DStv owner MultiChoice makes money

MultiChoice makes most of its money from DStv subscriptions but also rakes in billions through advertising, decoder sales, technology services, and insurance.

Multichoice released its results for the first half of the 2023 financial year this week, which included a 6.7% increase in revenue to R28.6 billion.

Nice. You should have put the previous year's numbers in braces - can't recall but it looks like their ad revenue went up 800m.

Interesting how small a percentage of their revenue is from advertising when compared to the amount of airtime it gets.

The service could be so much better, if only they cared about their value proposition at all.

I recon if they got rid of adds, they would retain or even regain some subscribers.

The correct heading should be: How DSTV milks the world dry!

So by continuously reporting on this piece of crap company they're effectively being advertised. Slick move!

Correction, "from Premium subscribers", by milking the rugby/cricket lovers and subsidising lower packages (Compact) which watches much more expensive broadcasting rights of soccer compared to rugby.
Now offer Compact packages at much lower prices and voila :-(
But the wheel is turning
