MultiChoice says automatic Disney+ subscriptions are part of DStv Rewards

Nice try, DSTV. A few weeks ago I also got the SMS about "thank you for subscribing ..." yada yada. I emailed DSTV to say I hadn't subscribed and hadn't agreed they could subscribe after the free 3-month trial ended. The consultant never mentioned this would be another free 3-month subscription as stated in your article, but agreed to correct the mistake.

I (stupidly) signed up for rewards a few weeks ago, but this hasn't (yet) been added to my account, nor have I received any email or SMS notifying me as such, so all good there so far.

However, I had a look around the DStv website while logged into my profile, and nowhere do I see an option to cancel the rewards prog. - @BrianG mentioned in a post he'd cancelled his, so wonder how to go about doing so ?

Pretty much what I thought this was about

Bullshit
We got this as well and have not opted in for anything (DSTV rewards or Disney )

Do you for one minute think Multichoice will automatically cancel and remove Disney+ from your account after the 3 months are up? Hell no!

So many things that is wrong in this world, can be blamed on the people that is willing to pay for that.

DStv explains why Disney+ got automatically added to bills

MultiChoice has explained why it automatically added Disney+ subscriptions to the DStv packages of some of its customers on Monday.

According to the broadcaster, the customers complaining about the automatic add-on had opted in for its DStv Rewards programme.
Stupid was AStupid is and Stupid will be.A great marketing tool DSTV but made at least two errors. 1WAS not telling me that it was a freebie 2 Was to filter it so that only those with the correct decoder would receive it

At no point has Multichoice communicated that this was a "free trial" or, that is added as a result of signing up for the Rewards app and nowhere did it say that it would automatically be terminated after three months. They also have not communicated any opt-in options. In fact, there has been zero communication from Multichoice (apart from the SMS activating it). Having spoken to the call-centre to remove Disney+, my account now shows a reversal of the Disney+ subscription of R43.63 which alludes to the fact that they were in fact going to charge me for their "free trial". It's just a poor business practice.

I find that the Rewards aren't really rewarding.

You will have to go to a specific DSTV office. Then find the correct door in one of the sub-basements.
Opening the door will present you with the "Trial of cancellation". If you manage to overcome this you will find the next door, with the person able to cancel it. If luck is one your side, this person have not taken the allocated 300 day leave, or the 56 day sick leave. May the odds be forever in your favour.

I got the three free months initially then another email or sms (can't remember) which added on another 3 free months.

They are now that DSTV got caught adding them on

So when this whole thing blew up we logged a call to make sure it was removed from our account.
Got confirmation on mail.
Yesterday we had a call with a Disney rep and it turns out it was not removed....

Just sent a blistering mail to dstv. I now regard this as fraud and theft

You all with decoders and this issue should really consider doing 1 of 3 things:

1. Banding together and getting a lawyer's letter sent to DStv telling them to stop this unlawful act, or you're all going to cancel your subscriptions!
2. Open a police case of fraud against them. BUt then everyone else who has had this done to them should do so.
3. Leave the service and cancel DStv. let your wallets talk!

Got an SMS this morning that I was subscribed to Disney on DSTV. Sent them an SMS back to unsubscribe me and never to subscribe me to anything again without my express permission. I'll wait and see what happens and am also considering laying a charge of fraud.
