DStv signs deal with Disney

MultiChoice and the Walt Disney Company Africa have committed to a multi-year distribution agreement that will see Disney's factual and family channels continue to air on DStv until 2024.

Channels including National Geographic, National Geographic Wild, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, ESPN, and ESPN2 will continue to be available on DStv for the next two years.

And content gating continues. **** them; I will be torrenting/vpn + sub.

I don't care...been Dstv free for a long time now, and the best decision I made was to cancel. Saving of over R900+ per month. Was with DStv from launch in 1995 - been on premium for since then, and I simply cannot believe that I wasted so much money over the years. Adding all the money on subscription for 20+ years - I could have bought myself a nice house and a car. They phoned me on Friday with the "Black Friday deal @ R849 X 24 for a Explora Ultra with installation" - I told them to shoved it where the sun don't shine...

So that delays Disney + from being launched here ?

It has nothing to do with the launch of Disney+. This is just an agreement to carry certain Disney channels on DStv. It not an agreement regarding Disney content for airing films and series on non-Disney channels or on Showmax. As plans currently stand, it seems Disney+ launch is still going ahead in winter 2022.

I would imagine so - DSTV wouldn't license content available elsewhere in SA.
I don't know about that. I think DSTV are getting desperate to hold on to anything they can in any way they can, even if it means not having exclusivity on channels. Any sort of bargaining power they once had to gain exclusivity no longer exists, and I like to think they had to plead with Disney to allow them to even keep airing the channels.

That might just be my wishful thinking and the dreams I have of DSTVs demise

Excellent. ESPN/2 are the only reason I have DStv.

Anything worthwhile? It comes bundled with Hulu and Disney+ but I keep forgetting about it.

Where's the Flex package?
I would also like to know... my uncle just cannot live without sport and this package with the sport add on can save him some money. He has premium just for sport. We all know that sport is the only thing that keeps greedy Multichoice ship from sinking...

I watch the Scottish football and it's got a pretty decent coverage. This weekend is particularly good with tonight Hibs v Rangers, tomorrow Celtic v Hearts, Friday Inverness v Kilmarnock, Sunday Celtic v Dundee United.

For you though I'd imagine the coverage of the US sports including NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB and all the college stuff.

I just take the Compact Plus package at R539 a month so I'm pretty happy with that for the Scottish football and not the stage managed theatre stuff from south of the border ;)

I meant to ask, what bundle is that you have? My daughter in Scotland has the Disney+ from the UK which I pay in UKP and which we use at home, but is Hulu and ESPN part of a US only bundle?

Took transfer of the new house today and have ordered 500/250 fibre so I could potentially drop the DStv???

Edit: Ah wait, I think ESPN and ESPN Africa are different with different content????

Yes - it's the US bundle - $14 per month for all three.
