MultiChoice snubs Showmax subscribers in South Africa

While Showmax has started streaming HBO's hit Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon in several African countries, South Africans have nowhere to watch the show legally other than DStv Premium.

The MultiChoice-owned streaming service put the first episode of House of the Dragon on Showmax in Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria on 24 August 2022, two days after it premiered on DStv.

I'm sorry, but are we meant to feel sympathetic to a company like this? When they come out and moan they're losing business and then do this to their South African fan base? Not a chance...they deserve to get screwed as much as they're screwing their subscribers!
How ludicrous and utterly pathetic can you get.

I don't expect many people will sign up for a premium account @R900pm just to watch 1 series? What were they thinking

It’s unlikely that limiting the show to DStv Premium would draw many additional subscribers to the pay-TV service.
And I'm sure the audience who GoT appeals to are more than capable of finding "other ways" to watch it.

They probably looked at how people sign up to streaming services for 1-2 months to watch a new series and then cancel. In their warped view they were hoping for the same, not realising it is R99 to sign up to a streaming service, not R900.

They sure know how to manipulate, been doing it for too many decades. Keeps hurting them but on they go.

You do know that Showmax's sports subs is just one of their products?
I think the actual complaints went over the top there. People are complaining about the DStv platform and their scheistering of people, and he thought it was about the series!
