Showmax Pro will stream all Fifa World Cup games in 4K

MultiChoice's sports streaming service Showmax Pro will stream all 64 of this year's Fifa World Cup matches at up to 4K Ultra-High Definition (UHD).

It will be the first time the streaming service has supported this resolution.

HEVC (H.265) instead of H.264.
1080p H.264 for sports is probably 6-8Mbps, 4k HEVC is 8-12Mbps, but again, without knowing bitrate, this is kind of useless.

I still want to know why Dstv is not doing an AV1 hardware decoder explorer and trying to get people to swap for it, that would save them a lot of bandwidth and royalties.

Phahle: Smart TVs, AndroidTV, tvOS, Streama and Explora Ultra. The device itself has to be capable of 4K playback.

Does anyone do anything to activate it?​

Phahle: There’s no need for any activation. 4K-capable TVs will have it available inside the player as an option.

Because you pay for a hardware device that only does DStv. And it's over 2 years. Then it's pure profit for DStv.
That's why people want a proper streaming service for LESS than what they're paying now.
