Multiplayer games and other services not working properly on Telkom mobile.

Hi All,


I'm giving telkom mobile a try, since I'm sick of sitting using a 32KBps MTN connection.
Speeds are (sometimes) great. I get anywhere between 1MBps and 100KBps depending on the time of day.


My problem is, most multiplayer games and services (like teamspeak) are unusable.
Firstly, Battlefield 1 plays flawlessly. (yay)

Games like Rocket league, Payday, League of Legends, Factorio, World of warships, Far cry 4, Terraria, (and every other game in my steam list) don't work properly.

Services like Teamspeak, Ventrillio, VPN connections, etc, also do not work properly.

Everything listed above all exhibit the same symptoms:

Every half-second, huge packet delays/drops.

For example, my Teamspeak server, every-half second, everyone will be breaking up if they're talking.
In rocket league, every half-second I get the "disconnect" icon in the corner.
In Factorio, every half-second I get "server not responding"

I noticed while struggling to play Factorio last night, at around 11-12pm, everything started behaving nicely, and my teamspeak started working properly. Could this be related to telkom shaping?
If so, why am I being shaped on a capped (mobile data) account?


Using my old MTN sim card, all the above services run perfectly fine, also, the same servers run fine for my friends which are playing with me.

How can I get in contact with Telkom or what can I do to get these services above running smoothly?

It's pathetic that I can be getting 12Mbps on 3G, with a 22ms ping to speedtest servers, but anything else runs like s***.

Seems like the only thing Telkoms network is good for is speedtest.net

"Hi,the Integrated sims are a free back up service for when a clients line is faulty,as such have a limited through put to prevent abuse on them that would afftect paying mobile clients.There are no SLA's on them.After midnight to 7am they perform the way normal LTE/3G would though "

Does your area have Telkom LTE signal? If so, try a device that supports the 2300Mhz band range and set the router to use that LTE signal band. The 2300Mhz band is faster and also more stable.

Also try changing the APN from internet to TelkomInternet to see if that helps.

Well my Telkom line has been faulty for about 12-13 years now. So this would probably be the case.

Yay telkom.

Also, no LTE (or even telkom signal) router is roaming on MTN using APN TelkomInternet

Use a good VPN.. that will sort out your connection issue..
