The genocide of the Rohingya is ongoing.

But I don't know if that is the real reason, just pointing out an interesting connection.

Yeah I know...

I was going to go all conspiracy theory on the connection, but it just would have been to easy.

This is going to be a bit morbid...

Those weapons were being fired on automatic, if you know anything about shooting you know that you can't really hit anything if you fire a gun like that. If the casualty count remains at 2 fatalities + 24 wounded (and I hope it does), then I don't really think this is the work of someone who knows how to shoot. Especially in a crowded place like a music concert.

To me that rules out ISIS or your typical right-wing gun nut type.

Guess he knows how to shoot now, eh? :whistling:

64yo...

I don't think he really had a motive political or otherwise. I think Orbital is right. Probably just someone who lost everything and decided to go down in a blaze of Glory.

Having a good vantage point like he did. Even at full auto from 800 meters away you will have a pretty good hit count. You can't miss shooting into a massive crowd.

Is the betting kiosk still open?

Reddit stereotypes tell me that neo-Nazi losers who can't get white women go for Asians. I'll take right-winger for 200 dollars Bob.

64 year old white man with a Filipino looking companion? The man's a sex tourist!

^ This. Also, if the crowd were on pavement, even the rounds that miss directly, become deadly ricocheting off the ground.

Had he had no legal route to obtain an assault weapon with an unlimited magazine size, we would not be seeing this.

Ofc it would have still happened. It would have just taken longer to get what he needed. Making something illegal does not remove it, it make it harder to get ;)

It would have happened, but with a lower death toll.

Handgun with 17 round magazine, there is no chance in hell he could have fired 200+ rounds in such a short space of time.

Hardly...

He would have found the weapon he wanted with the mag he wanted anyway...

The saddest part of being a South African:

11 people shot and killed in CPT a few days ago. Post count reached 38.
https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/914469-BREAKING-11-dead-in-Cape-Town-mass-shootings

A shooting abroad and within a few hours post count already past 50.

Are we that desensitized to the stuff happening to our own people? :(

The victims were poor, black and lived in "not really Cape Town", what would make you think the majority on MyBB would care? As posted in that thread, if the shooting were in Clifton or Sandton, people would care.

On topic, it's ****ing scary how many people you can kill with a full auto weapon.

I guess it comes down to opinions on his state of mind.

Had the US had very strict gunlaws that literally forbid all weapons other than say handguns, shotguns and hunting rifles. How far was he willing to go to pursue some assault weapon through difficult and highly illegal means.

Stricter laws would certainly make it more difficult and perhaps deter him enough to resort to another means, which is far less efficient, than an assault rifle with unlimited magazine sizes.
