Hi all,

I am new to this router game. I have a Netgear DG834GUK (ADSL, Wifi, 4 port)

I see some setting on the ADSL settings menu:
Multiplexing Method: LLC-BASED
VPI: 8
VCI:35

What are each of these, and what are the settings supposed to be?

What can I do as well to ensure max performance of the ADSL etc? I have heard I can adjust MTU settings or some such.

Any advice, most welcome, ta!

VPI/VCI (Virtual Path Identifier/Virtual Channel Identifier). These two numbers simply tell the DSL equipment on both ends that they should talk to each other, almost the same as replacing a dialed number. Each DSL Provider uses a set of these two numbers and can be different.

The VPI is an 8-bit field in an ATM header combined with the VCI (16-bit field in an ATM header), it is used to identify the next destination of a cell as it passes through a series of ATM switches.

According to the IEEE 802 family of standards, Logical Link Control (LLC) is the upper sublayer of the OSI data link layer. The LLC is the same for the various physical media (such as Ethernet, token ring, WLAN).

Great response! Thanks.

Are the values assigned to them correct in my case then?
