Better to do it within the next 3 years. I suspect when the volume of people disconnecting goes up they will come up with a way to make it difficult to do so. They will change a regulation to deal with people wanting to disconnect and go off grid. At the moment though a lot of people cant see themselves running without the grid so it will take a while before they start considering such measures.

The DA`s new slogan/lie: "Fighting for a lower cost of living!". The DA is fighting for a lower cost of living by taking more from the middleclass and subsidizing the poor more. Stock standard 100% socialism. Eventually there will be no middleclass left if the DA gets its way.

Off grid is already banned in the Cape. The same is happening in the rest of SA. The Cape is the DA`s test project to roll out more extreme socialism nationally. Teaching their GNU-GNU bed buddy ANC how its done. Vavi DANC GNU-GNU!

Happily my bill goes down with the increase.

Mostly as I don't pay for electricity as I don't have a muni connection from CoCT. Did spend 60k this week adding another 20kWh of battery storage to have 40kWh in total, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Did your total bill come down even with the rates tax increases and the new "cleaning" levy? Is your solar system registered? Because the new thing is a special solar levy that they want to implement.

Haven't bothered registering. To register they said I would need to install an electrical connection. I said no, so still at that impasse.

Now they won't even register off-grid systems at all, so I'm even less concerned.

I don't have a connection, so I don't see why I should have to pay for installing it, then have a monthly fee for something I don't need or want.

Thankfully I bought and built on a plot with no electrical services, so no fee.

Really? I tried searching for that and all I found is certain inverters are banned from being grid tied. Nothing specific about being off grid.

Do you really think COCT will allow disconnecting? They stopped allowing it when load-shedding became bad. They amended a bylaw to state that disconnecting in CPT urban zoning is not allowed. Even if you do manage to get disconnected, they will still charge you the availability levy. When you buy a plot you immediately start paying water and electricity availability levies, even with no water pipes or Eskom connection to the house. It is socialist like that. Little DA scumbag party.

The only inverters allowed are grid-tied inverters. This is done to justify them requiring all solar systems to be registered and to prevent going off-grid.

And they say the DA is better than the ANC. So much for freedom and rights. I would be so angry if I was in CPT. Making me pay for services I don’t use.
