Seems to be adequately equipped inside and from the latest pictures it's ugly but not he ugliest I've ever seen - I just think they are way off base with that price point. For 180K-200K most people would rather buy something far more reputable in the second hand market and more than likely be getting a car that will last longer and age better.

Safety Ratings? Not a bad thought, but as someone stated before, rather design and build one in here using the old Toyota tech engine. I won't buy one, but the low-end market might if it is around R120k mark....For R180k, no one will consider it.

I thought it would be obvious for someone with business brains that the entry level market is the one where there is more potential, especially with a half baked effort like that, people are buying a Datsun Go like it's going out of fashion, they should drop all the fancy features and compete In that segment.

but but but,

the cadres want to drive new BMW's and Toyota is all tapped out building quantum's locally.
so lets find some new suckers to build iranian built vehicles as oil wealth means more money to buy BMW's for the well connected cadres.

We need a 80K car. 100K is pushing it already. We need a VW beatle, A Datsun GX 1200. cheap light cars. and RELIABLE. What engine does this even use? Is it going to function in SA? The first TATA, Chana and Cherry just did not survive. 40K on the CHANA and 70K on that TATA.

This seems to be a rebadged Proton more than likely..

So dodgy Malaysian design, handed to the Iranians to make it even cheaper and worse, and then given to use in kit form to make even worse.

Nope, this is actually an old Mazda platform from the 80's.. Kia Pride/Ford Festiva etc... with new sheet metal it seems, so I would guess safety will be even worse than the Go

Just don't make accidents. Problem solved.

I think there is a need for a real cheapy, don't know about demand though.
Sometimes people don't make accidents. Accidents follow them. Drivers on social media, IM while driving, drunk drivers, Pedestrians leisurely crossing the freeway, unsecured loads on trucks, etc. The risks are endless.

Interior thoughts?

Dig or no dig?

Not bad, but my Tata Bolt, while not pretty on the outside either, has a much nicer interior than this I think, and was cheaper than the entry point of R180 000.00 these guys are going for. Does not make sense to me.

Please... you need to get the history right..

This is Africanacity all the way from Japan in the 80's after it has been fscked with by at least 2 other Car companies in the intervening years.
Well if you are going to start a car company it is easier to use a existing platform.

To call your car a monkey and sell it to Africans.

sounds like a plan, I mean nowhere else will they buy such a car.
so lets flog it to the poorest nations on earth, and charge mega bucks for it.

If I was Toyota I wouldn't worry so much TBH.
unlikely to threaten my Market share.

They are unlikely to threaten anyone's market share unless they rethink their strategy.

Oh 100%...

But to start with a platform that has been in existence since the 80's and has mostly (from what I can gather) just had sheet metal changes to the platform is not a good start..

and also to call it an African car, when it clearly is just an SKD operation is disingenuous at best, a downright fscking lie is more like it though.

Also R180k for something like that, I doubt they will shift many units anyway, esp when a Datsun Go is R140k, and even though I dislike them intensely is a much newer platform underlying the vehicle.
