They're panicking. Mastodon has seen increased traffic since the Thursday night purge
Why would they panic? Mastadon has just over 2 million DAU, compared to Twitters over 200 million. Existing accounts can still link to their alternative platform. The new TOS doesn't ban that at all. For comparison Truth Social which is limited to the US has just over 500k DAU.

Ironically the second largest mastodon instance after Mastadon.social is a japanese instance called Pawoo.net depicting anime/manga children hentai. At one point this instance was larger than the .social. The group contains many people who were booted from Twitter quite a while ago.

I have a feeling people will start to feel a bit disconnected having to manage which instances they follow. Unless the general sheeple just go the .social route and ignore all else, remaining at the mercy of what the instance itself allows.
Still, that's an awfully small pool by comparison.

As a well-known China hawk in the US politics thread, this is a good point. Musk musnt cosy up to China. FFS.
It also doesn't include Gettr, Parlor, Gab, Minds, VK or the myriad of other alt tech options.

As for TikTok I really doubt it's due to "cozying up", but rather that it's a different service. I mean YouTube is also not on the list and it's shorts is more in line with TikTok.
Then again there is a strong push to remove TikTok as a whole. It's already banned from any governmental pc/phone iirc.

Thank heavens for vox populi, otherwise Ahmed would not be long for QElon's twitter dot com.

If Twitter was the whole internet we'd never get to see pics like these
