Oh yeah, they thought they were being clever with funny software, that was just straight up fraud though. All car companies exaggerate the capabilities of their cars. The range is often with the most unrealistic conditions that you cant ever achieve in the real world, the Chinese are just generally much worse than the Europeans or Americans.

I don't trust many things Chinese made that much, but when it comes to Tesla, there are tons of issues with quality control and straight BS when it comes to range.

Tesla warns that a federal probe into whether it exaggerated the range of its cars may lead to a ‘material adverse impact on our business’​

Chinese cars that are coming into Europe are also doing pretty well in terms of safety.
