WhatsApp privacy and security warning

Tesla and X CEO Elon Musk has raised concerns about WhatsApp’s security and privacy, saying the company exports users’ data every night.

WhatsApp promotes itself as a highly secure messaging application with end-to-end encryption of all chats.

These days I expect they would derive the most value from automated analysis of your messages. It doesn't even matter if somebody (a person) can ever read your messages. I'm fairly certain that they are still mining it for data about you. And what advertising you might respond to. That's what Google is primarily interested in, and so that's what they push for. The degree to which they cooperate with state surveillance varies from country to country. Much was made a while back already of our government's ability to spy on people via WhatsApp here. It was stated fairly clearly that you might be held liable for your WhatsApp messages. It was in the news.

As is often the case - This news, in this form, might be applicable in the US. Who knows? But here in SA I'm pretty sure our WhatsApp is already an open book for the government.

Everyone is using WhatsApp. Like to see what WhatsApp or meta will do with the claims.....Or how they will respond

Export away, I don't care. For those that refuse to use WhatsApp due to security, it's mostly a principle thing anyway, and has nothing to do with functionality.

I often wonder if the modern media user have lost their ability to understand the "Let the buyer beware" principle apply before purchasing/installing applications on their phones/PC in general. The concept of "Free" = You are the market, peer pressure etc.

The facts clearly show that we have CHOICES to make or just follow the trend like sheep...!!!
WhatsApp etc. require to be downloaded and is not standard with your phone, these apps use data versus the GSM system of your phone.

Your Android phone has built in Data message system built in - Google RCS - No need to download and install.
The Apple phone fan boys have iMessage built in as standard.

All phones have the "difacto" Text/SMS system built in using the switching system with the 160 Character limit, free on some networks otherwise at a small fee. Still in service as a major player in many countries eg. USA etc.
We still have a major portion of RSA users that Tx/Rx SMS that refuse to change, thus using their right of choice.
