Musk showcases Neuralink brain computer - by implanting it in pigs

To the ANC government....
This is how you create jobs. Elon Musk is asking for people to contact Neuralink for job opportunities.
ANC government, you create jobs by improving education, especially in the 4IR. Not by destroying the education system by creating a majority of "30percenters" and then passing laws, BBBEE, to force companies to employ these people.

So assuming they get this right, let's say it's a short procedure, costs about the same as a midrange smartphone, Would you get this?

After years of watching stuff like Black Mirror, H+ and Altered Carbon (RIP) I'm very much on the fence. Unlike my Android phone, which I can root, and make sure it is my own and mess around with, the only consequence being the loss of the device. This would carry far more risk to hack, and therefore you are at the mercy of whatever network/OS it ends up working with.

You'll have no choice. Everyone else will get smarter than you

Nice! Let's get some brain implants for the left

Probably depends on the extent to which this enhances our ability to interact with the digital world. If you're in a job where people are getting this and it exponentially ramps up their ability to do things, you'd be under some pressure to get one too.

People get smartphones because it's the norm now - to have a camera and internet in your pocket; people seldom choose whether to have a smartphone, the choice is usually which one to get. And neuralink (or similar brain/digital interfaces) could become the same: A thing you get without even thinking about it.

Nah just before a orgasm you will have to pay to unlock premium content..

I can just imagine the tombstone: "Here Lies Martin Pinklett. Tried To Root instead He Bricked It!"

All this unnatural fukkery is going to backfire because people cannot leave well enough alone. Musk is so obsessed with this it is disturbing. So happy my young adult kids have decided not to have children of their own. The human race being so clever will eventually wipe itself out.

I would, but as Saor says, it depends on the inputs/outputs.

To what degree can it automate me functioning with electronics? As a software developer that could be a huge thing.
What can it read from my brain, such as for example where I'm looking currently, if its text can that text be decoded? Again just as a software dev that's a big thing.
They mention things like super-vision, addiction etc, so it must be able to act on the brain in certain ways, again it depends on the effectiveness.

So essentially you would way up the loss of privacy/control for against how useful it is?

No doubt it will be ****ing cool, to have.
