But the point made by someone else is the whole point of this, what was she doing working there in the first place? Surely she should not be showing any skin in public? This sounds rather fishy

Muslims aren't monolithic

Just highlighting the discrepancy...

a British woman was killed in Afghanistan.. probably for her non-conformance to traditional dress.

http://www.iht.com/articles/reuters/2008/10/20/asia/OUKWD-UK-AFGHAN-KILLING.php

A child of 13 was stoned to death in Somalia for "promiscuity"

http://www.amnesty.org/en/for-media/press-releases/somalia-girl-stoned-was-child-13-20081031

I sympathise with this Muslim woman, but I have to ask "why was she trying to get a job in a bar anyway where her religious traditions were bound to clash with the British culture? I acknowledge it was not stated in her employment contract, but surely she had been into the bar before and noted the styles of dress and behaviour of the patrons? If she comes from a culture that has such radical traditions regarding dress and behaviour, then why was she looking for a job there?

Only problem with this argument is that Muslims aren't one monolithic group so she wouldn't have, initially had any qualms about working in the cocktail bar if the work fell within her own moral guidelines. I can imagine that a place like Bosnia, where this lady is from would not be following a rigid version of Islam as that which is practiced in some parts of the Middle East/Pakistan/Malaysia and Somalia.

There was no issue initially. Now there is an issue.

As said look at the contract and labour law.
If the place she works is a sleazy place with girls in revealing outfits,
and she knew this (ie it was explained) and she agreed to this
she has no leg to stand on, although with labour law in UK, you never know.

On the other hand if she is a mere waitress or hostess and her job description does not include her being a 'sex object' then the company is at fault.
They deserve to be sued.

Do note that at issue here is not a religious problem but a sexist one.

This is true. Generalisation and attacking everyone on the basis of the works of extremists is how racism, sexism, religious intolerance, homophobia, xenophobia and other related problems have developed.

People see "Muslim" and automatically think - she's a terroist.

One wonders why leave Bosnia ;) Lets rather go to the UK and dictate to the gvt, much easier as the gvt done just exterminate people there. And people have the audacity to complain about western governments ???

How is she a fanatic? Just because she doesn't want to wear a skimpy dress?

Some people are clearly not reading the article and jumping to conclusions based on the 'muslim' stereotype. It's all too common round here.

They made it very clear that she was a Muslim though. Wonder what they wanted to clarify by doing that? BTW, that red dress is hardly revealing. I reckon she just wants a quick buck. Greedy b1tch.

Elbows and neck region should always be covered. It might not be revealing to you but it is to her. She has a case and can win it. Nothing greedy about it.

She wants her elbows and neck regions covered while serving alcohol? She seems like a very selective Muslim.

SENSATIONALISM. :)

Maybe we could get input from women here. What's their take?
Would you as a non-Muslim woman, hired for a waitressing job at
a sports cafe mind being told you have to wear a revealing dress after
some months of employment?

I'm not a woman though  but the fact that it is a sports bar and not an up-market restaurant should have given her an idea of what can be expected of her. And that dress is far from revealing, I bet she has more of of those in her own cupboard. I call gold-digger and opportunist.
