The word anger brilliantly been used here to give the wrong view on this artical .... its simply a request to move it one month. Regardless of where it is, a quarter of participants is not a minority. The olympics is 6 years away thats more than enough time.

I think Muslims are trying to raise their profile again. Probably tired of being linked to terrorism they are standing upright to say "We need to be heard!". It's a natural reaction to the controversy I suppose.

PLEASEEEEE!!

It's a Christian country, no a muslim one!

Do you think they care? Ask the people of Denmark, and specificly, one cartoonist there who now has had Jihad declared against him.

Maybe not anger but outrage certainly :

"It shows a complete lack of awareness and sensitivity.

"This is going to disadvantage the athletes and alienate the Asian communities by saying they don't matter.

True but if every interest group put in their request would the olympics ever be held?

How is complaining more a natural reaction? Surely it just worsens the situation?

Why should they? The Olympics is not a religious event. If they don't like the timing of it they are welcome to not participate.

Because the muslims said so. again and again and again, and I have a feeling they will only be happy once we listen and do everything they say. At this point it wont be a problem, because we will be muslim to.

I think that Islam is a *little* more than an "interest group". I think that in planning a world event, you should consider the religious days of at least the world's major religions.

Why should an event that has been around for longer than islam change because it doesn't suit some muslims?

Why is Christianity/Jewish holy days not accomodated? AFAIK Saterday's and Sunday's is the most popular day to have sporting events.

Sorry, your argument does not wash.

No one is suggesting avoiding all holy days every week.

But I would think that Ramadan is due at least the same respect as the significant events of other world religions.

But logistically its very hard to plan around such a long period, aside from anything else. And how do you decide which religions are important and which aren't? By numbers? How many ppl that profess to be part of a religion are really that observant anyway.

Hang on, This olympics thing is due to happen when I'm having my hair cut..

Shock horror, outrage and possibly some mindless violence!

Really, these ppl should get a grip. What next? Cancelling Christmas if some airy fairy other reason comes along?

Like has been pointed out, Britain is a predominatly christian country, there is no reason to bow to bunch of <deleted by="ic" reason="racist slur"/> who have bugger all respect for anyone but themselves. And yes I'm aware of the irony in that last sentence.

Having read the article (not sure if we are reading the same one) I have seen no threats of violence, no oubursts of anger, calls to jihad or any thing as such, just a simple request for a little consideration, please remember, the spirit of the Olympics is to include everyone, five interlinked circles. And as far as Saturdays and Sundays are concerned, if we as non Muslims choose to play sport on those days, thats our problem, not theirs!

Not a day go by on these forums, unless muslims are targeted.
Ramadaan can be predicted for a number of years ahead, so anything can be planned. And yes its indeed a simple request that will be seen as a huge war.

I have yet to see a valid reason for it to be moved. I would same the same thing if it was a christian or jewish holiday.
