MVNOs taking on major operator dominance in South Africa

South Africa's mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) are increasingly vying for the attention of customers who previously only considered the major mobile network operators (MNOs) for their cellular products.

MVNOs include the likes of Afrihost Air Mobile, Capitec Connect, FNB Connect, Melon Mobile, Mr Price Mobile, Shoprite K'nect Mobile, Standard Bank Mobile, and TFG Connect, some of which have recorded substantial subscriber growth in 2023.

CellC's data packages are still cheaper than Capitec Connect

Important you do your homework before you buy

It is? Not from what I can see. Capitec Connect for 1GIG is R49.00 and does not expire. Below is Cell C price and is valid for 30 days only.

These MVNO's are just "Smoke and Mirror" stuff. Their quality depends on which MVO's netwerk they are roaming on. If it is Cell C the quality of Voice etc. will suffer. Roaming comes with its own set of problems versus the subscribers to the MVO and their network priorities, MVNO users can be kicked from the MVO if they require the services for their subscribers as they have first preference.
