dont be mad just cus i know how to use a product with a better result that you buddy

apparently the fact that yours got canceled doesn't really seem to warrant "better result"

and just because say ie Kosmik didn't get so called "better result" doesn't mean he is unable to...
it actually means he knows how to read and to abide by a certain "code of conduct" if you may call it that

we have an unsecure wifi network cus we give away bw for free and we averaged about 600GB/month since April last year

Good grief, dude!

If that isn't abuse, I am not sure what is. Okay so it makes my capped account look really sick, but your excessive BW is probably slowing down many others.

Me thinks MWEB probably did the right thing.

Unless I got this all wrong, this fella in probability deserves hits fate. I haven't read FUP's cover to cover, but this description kinda fits the bill.

Adam joined MyBB today to start this thread and vent his discord at MWEB. Somehow it would have felt a bit better if he'd been in the forums a while longer. But this is his intro. Regretfully it doesn't set a good tone to start. :(

does anyone know what the actual limit is for downloading from mweb before it gets categorized as abuse?

thanks kosmik. just trying to understand what mwebs abuse is all about. so if i used my 4mb uncapped line to download normal pics, vids from youtube, windows vista updates NORMAL things (no torrents rapidshare or any other file storage host) and these came to 300gb is that defined as abuse or am i okay.

It's fine, even torrents and news are fine as long as you don't try and bypass the shaping rules. It is mainly that , that they file as abuse. Some people want it now and full, for those I'd recommend unshaped but for the avg person who wants to play games, browse, download , stream I find the account fine.

Btw I play local fps and Eve internation MMO as a reference. Was watching some 720p youtube on Sunday, including the new Xmen trailer which looks like fun :D

You must've bypassed the shaping using something like Downstorm.. right?

How exactly is that bypassing shaping?
Encrypting torrents is bypassing.

Having a website download something on your behalf with their own bandwidth, then provide a link to you as http, is not bypassing. Unless you bypass http shaping you have nothing to worry about.

Haha, this is funny :p

At least we now know that 600 gigs and open sharing are some criteria for cancellation ;)

Good job to Mweb for canceling your account.

I mean seriously ? Unsecured wireless for all my a-r-s-e !

Just admit you were downloading media content and move on.

it is bypassing in the sense that, ie you will have Downstorm download a file from some1 like Rapidshare/Megaupload/Hotfile, then giving you access to that file and be able to download at a higher rate than you would normally be allowed.

so take ie some1 goes and has Downstorm download several hundred gigs of files and now you want to download it... your line will be active for quite some time and because you are using DS, it will be running at closer to full speed than normally allowed.

this then causes you to take effect of a higher speed than what you would have normally downloaded, meaning you will be putting more 'strain' on their servers than usual.

but I think they have started to throttled Downstorm as well, but I could be mistaken.

offering unsecured wireless access is the dumbest thing i've ever heard... for your sake lets hope no-one has done anything dodgy using that access since you WILL be held responsible. The unsecured wireless excuse doesnt work in court.

lol. I did 750Gb last month on my Axxess Express+ account.

You guys that are claiming the end of the world for anyone who uses more than 3Gb (or whatever your little caps are) need to catch a wake up. Go look in the rest of the world, 50Mb and now 100Mbps lines are available to users for a fraction of what we pay for our 4Mb lines.

In Canada they were imposing caps, but the people rejected it and the caps got removed. I really wish that the majority of South Africans weren't morons who still believe that downloading anything is bad karma.

as usual - there's always someone who will push the limit.

OP, that's like going to an "all you can eat" buffet and sitting next to an open window where you hand plates of food to everyone coming past - I mean, seriously, you really expected them not to can your account.

BTW, I have a hard time believing that they did not try to contact you? No matter what people may think, large companies DO have to follow their own rules - the reputational risk of not doing so is simply too high.

@OP - have you also considered the risk of somebody downloading some icky stuff like kiddie porn? You'll be the patsy, not the real guilty party.
