MWEB isn't for sale, says ISP CEO

Pity, maybe it would have rescued the sinking ship.

I find the denial implausible and not only because I have no belief in Hershaw's capacity for honesty. MWEB has a group CEO - Francois Theron. If Naspers was intreted in selling off part of its holding in MWEB Connect (Pty) Ltd it wouldn't be a matter really for Hershaw to deal with. What is really interesting is that if you look at Naspers website MWEB is included with "pay TV" rather the Internet: http://www.naspers.com/company-structure.php

My guess is that Naspers have put out feelers to unbundle MWEB Connect and that there is a serious problem in dealing with the ISP arm. Frankly fresh management and a preparedness to actually look into how to make a contribution into the SA Internet space in conjunction with the changes in direction at Telkom are what is needed, a big pile of cash would also help.

o my is the gravy train not so full of gravy anymore?

NASPERS had put one of SA’s biggest internet service providers, MWEB, up for auction, and a deal might be concluded within nine months, MWEB CEO Rudi Jansen said yesterday.

IS, MWeb merger on the cards?
Five years after Naspers tried unsuccessfully to auction MWeb, the media group may be in talks to merge the Internet service provider with Dimension Data’s Internet Solutions

I wouldn't believe a single word that comes out of Hershaw's mouth tbh...

the old saying goes.. where there is smoke there is fire..

A rumor like this would not come out of no where.
