Telkom is the best out of those 2 because they have a relaxed caping policy and mweb is ****. You will probably need to get 2 * 3gig telkom accounts

Telkom. Start with one account and see if you need another. You certainly shouldn't the first month - not with only 6gb traffic.

Yeah you'll have to go with Telkom. I suppose we don't need to point out that that's like asking "Which spiky dildo should I get repeatedly sodomised with?" right?

Ouch, what a terrible choice of ISP's!

You have to chose between the big devil and the little devil.

If it was my choice (thank goodness it's not) then I would also go with the big devil, Telkom.

Telkom. You should get 6gb on one account, but with their new policy that might not be possible. I'm going to ask anyways :p Why those 2 ISP's?

What the problem with Mweb, other than they will cut one off at the cap amount ??

Blegh, not one? =\

The blacklisting thing is pretty bad, makes Telkom accounts basically hardcapped =(

With MWeb you are paying R90 a gb for 6GB (R540 total), whilst with WebAfrica you can get a 5GB account (R290) and 1GB prepaid (R70) for a total of R360

And thier both SAIX resellers;

in otherwords WA is cheaper for the same product and 1000000% better service.

I think you seriously underestimate how un-knowledgable & confused the average person/business outside these forums is about ADSL/broadband. Without MWEB's marteking blitz far fewer ppl would aware of the existance & advantages of broadband.

While MWEB's offerings have little appeal to the ppl around here, they have their place in the market ... entice Joe/Jane Soap to give broadband a try. By helping to bulk up the broadband adoption numbers, the total user base moves closer to having real critical mass. This will enhance users/businesses ability to demand price drops and regulation changes.

Just wondering here, but is MWEB really that bad?

Prices aside, are there any other serious reasons why someone shouldn't consider them? (ie. reliability, slower access, poor customer support and all that jazz...)

For example, say I was able to get a package from MWEB for the same price, or less than the competition (eg. WebAfrica or Telkom), would there be any special reason to go with one of the competitors? Or is it just a matter of best price = best ISP?

The support staff was close to useless last time I spoke to them... otherwise thier to big so you run the risk of dissapearing into admin obscurity... thereby really battling with any billing related querie.

Also they're big enough that pleasing customers is no longer super nesessary, thus if you become unhappy they don't really care and tell you to take your business elsewhere.

They'll also do what they can to get you locked into a contract.

And of course, you won't find any of thier pricing the same or better than the competition... they're simply uber expensive with no justification.

Cool! Thanks, Carlhead!

I was just wondering, not because i'm a fan of them at all. It's just that my workplace offers subsidised ADSL access via MWEB. Which would bring the total cost of a 3GB account to around R20-R60 cheaper than the competition!

Obviously, MWeb are pretty sketchy with information, so I have no idea how many concurrent connections they allow or what their contention ratios are like – i am assuming that they are pretty high :(

That being the case, WebAfrica may just take the cake :)

MWeb don't have thier own network and are SAIX resellers... thus they support 4 concurrent connections and thier contention ratio's are the same as everyone else's (which has been estimated to be as high as 120:1 on the international links)

Also take a look at the WA prepaid packages, they may save you money because your unused GB's carry over indefinitely untill you use them.
